Amanda Gorman's Met Gala Hairstyle Has a Special Hidden Meaning Behind It

Amanda Gorman's Braided Ponytail Hairstyle Met Gala 2021

Amanda Gorman looked like a true vision on the Met Gala red carpet dressed in a deep, navy blue sparkly dress and matching eye makeup, but we couldn't take our eyes off her hair. The poet and gala co-chair wore her hair in an extra-long, high braided ponytail with a crystal laurel headpiece, which she explained had a very special meaning to her.

While chatting on the red carpet with host Keke Palmer, Gorman divulged her look was inspired by the spirit of the Statue of Liberty, right down to her laurel crown headpiece, which is by Jennifer Behr. The laurel bears a significant meaning to poets because it's the headpiece the god Apollo wore, who is the patron of lyrical poetry.

"Working with Amanda was a dream come true for me, and it was my absolute goal to bring her vision to life," said Behr in a press release. "I wanted her to have access to our full breadth of work — from archived classics to never-before-seen custom crowns. She beautifully landed on one of my favourite signature pieces, worn in a style all her own, of course."
