Regular Blowouts at Home Are My New Beauty Habit, and My Hair Has Never Looked Better

My typical, pre-social-distancing beauty routine was about as low maintenance as you can get, in fact, I rarely blow-dried (or even brushed!) my hair. Since it's usually mid-to-long in length and hasn't been chemically coloured or permed, air drying it just meant it always had a bit of wave, but it also looked a little unkempt with that just-rolled-out-of-bed frizz. (See the photo on the left for reference. That was taken in January, back when I was also wearing makeup . . . and leaving the house.)

Now that I'm working from home, I'm conserving my contacts and wearing my glasses almost every day, and I'm also not wearing any makeup. I've decided that blow-drying my hair is the one small way I can feel put together at home for Zoom meetings or just for myself, even if I'm wearing sweats and Birks. Since I'm also dealing with dry skin and hair from being inside all day, I rub a tiny bit of this Shea Moisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Finishing Oil Serum ($16) on my hands and use it on my ends and flyaways right after blow-drying it. This small extra step has also made a huge difference tackling the frizz. Now that I'm finally taking the time to give my the hair the TLC it deserves, it actually looks shinier, healthier, and fuller now than it did before the pandemic. (Too bad no one can see it.)
