04/09/2023 - 05:05 PM

Cosy jumpers (preferably knitted by Tom Daley [1]), a minimum of three Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser hot chocolates a day, and a brand-spanking-new hair colour is exactly what the doctor ordered for autumn 2023 if you ask us. When a new season comes around, there's just something about switching up our hair colour that's far too tempting, especially now that salon's are fully up and running (unlike the year that shall not be named). With trends like Gemini hair [2] and "bropper" [3] already proving popular for the season, we couldn't wait to find out what other hair colour hues the experts think are going to be the hottest and most wearable this season.

While you can expect to find your regular autumnal hair colours here, many of these trends marry vibrancy with low-maintenance — the perfect combination in our eyes. Keep reading to get the scoop on our favourite hair colour trends for the autumn months this year, according to top UK-based colourists.

Autumn 2023 Hair Colour Trend: Bropper

"We usually see the rise of copper colours every autumn, and this year we expect no
different. Instead of bright tones and more yellow-based shades, we're expecting the colour of the moment to lean deeper and more red than before, the result being these beautiful shades reminiscent of autumn leaves," Tyler Moore, expert hair stylist at Live True London [4] tells POPSUGAR.

Autumn 2023 Hair Colour Trend: Cocoa Butter Bronde

"Cocoa lights are warm, cocoa coloured highlights that perfectly suit medium-to-dark brown hair. They're created by taking the natural hair colour just a few shades lighter and warmer in strategic places, the result being a subtle cocoa-dusting of multi-tonal shades. This look is dimensional, low maintenance and perfect for autumn," Moore explains.

Autumn 2023 Hair Colour Trend: Amethyst Purple

"Autumn is a great time to experiment with darker colours outside of your natural shade, with many people going for reds or purples, as this can be as discreet or bold as you choose. The amethyst purple shade can be worn as a statement all over colour, or as a balayage to balance with your natural shade. If you're still unsure, weaving in some deep plum tones into your balayage can be a more wearable option if you want just a hint of colour," Tyler shares.

Autumn 2023 Hair Colour Trend: Desaturated Washed Blonde

"For those looking for a cooler, high-impact shade this winter, washed blonde is your answer. It's a desaturated, ashy and cool blonde shade, perfect for making a statement. This look works best as highlights or a high contrast balayage, and despite its name, it can be high maintenance. Load up on colour-balancing shampoos and don't forget to rebook for a toner refresh."

In order to achieve this look, Moore reccomends "bleaching the hair to a very high lift". While this isn't always achievable in one session, it can be done in stages. After the initial bleaching, you can then "tone your hair to a gorgeous creamy blonde by neutralising any natural yellows".

Autumn 2023 Hair Colour Trend: Bamboo Blonde

"Bamboo blonde is the next hair colour look for our blonde babes looking for a more subdued and natural tone leading into the fall. Think golden-beige tones, multidimensional shades, and a seamless blend. This look is reminiscent of the tweed blonde trend of last year, although this look is distinctly more natural, more beige and can be adjusted for both blondes and light-medium brown hair," Moore shares.
