3 Autumn Tattoo Trends to Consider For Your Next Appointment

3 Tattoo Trends to Consider Before Booking Your Next Appointment This Autumn

There are a number of reasons that make autumn the perfect time to get a tattoo. For one, the entire season gives off an energy that makes you want to reinvent yourself, whether it's getting a new haircut, taking up a new hobby, or overhauling your beauty routine. Second — and most importantly — it's the optimal time for tattoo healing, since getting one in summer runs the risk of exposing your sensitive, newly inked skin to the sun and water.

As tattoo studios start to book up their appointment slots for September on, this gives you just the right amount of time to gather inspiration, and the upcoming season is bringing quite a few fresh tattoo designs for you to consider. The top tattoo trends for 2020, as well as this autumn's predictions, can be a great jumping-off point for your own artwork ideas.

Ahead, Guen Douglass and Edit Paints, two tattoo artists and ambassadors for the inspiration and booking app Tattoodo, are breaking down the top three tattoo trends for autumn.

The '90s are back in more ways than one, and that theme is going to start trickling into tattoos. "'90s pop culture and nostalgia is more than a trend," said Douglas. Paints added: "I see that even clients that don't have a lot of tattoos can connect to the culture-related tattoos because it reminds them [of] something [in] their childhood, and how it connects to this period of time."

Think: tattoo ideas inspired by your favourite TV shows or movies, beloved characters or symbols, song lyrics, basically anything that will flood you with fond memories and make you go, "Aw, remember when . . ." when you look at it.

This one should come as no surprise, but minimalist tattoos will reign supreme for yet another season. "Small fine line and simple minimal tattoos — including micro tattoos — are still going strong and I've been seeing more fine line traditional and single needle tattoos lately," said Douglas.

The popular category of flower tattoos has evolved to include more general plant designs. "Plant tattoos are very popular right now, from tiny to larger work, and will be a continued trend for autumn," said Douglas. This tattoo idea can be adapted to any style of tattooing, including minimalist.
