The French manicure has gone through many variations over the years. It all started with the classic '90s white tips, which slowly transformed into a modern, diffused take [1] created by blending the edge resulting in an ombré effect. More recently, though, celebrities have experimented with more vibrant and even darker twists on the design [2]. Priyanka Chopra Jonas chose the BAFTA Awards [3] to try out one of the most stylish takes on the french manicure right now: black tips.

This modern take on the french manicure — created by London-based nail artist Michelle Humphrey [4] — is extra long and features a deep arch [5] to accentuate the dark hue of the tips and give a big impact. The stylish nails matched Chopra Jonas's equally chic bubble braid, Pertegaz blazer, and stunning Bulgari jewels. [6] "I didn't want to overkill it on the nail art as the looks were quite detailed with embroidery and the Ronald Van der 3D butterfly dress detailing. So I did a long tapered square nail, with a black deep French tip to elongate the nails - these were finished in a matte top coat to tie in with some of the details," Humphrey told POPSUGAR.

To create Chopra Jonas's look, Humphrey used BioSculpture gel in Baby Heart Confetti for the base, Daniella for the black tip, and the Suede Top coat for the most beautiful, smooth velvet finish. "The coloured French manicure is an effective but low-key way of bringing a part of your outfit palette into your nails," Humphrey said.
