  • Barbie-blonde hair is trending.
  • The bright blonde colour is inspired by the upcoming "Barbie" movie.
  • Everyone from Lily James to Lil Nas X is getting in on the trend.

Blondes are certainly having more fun in the upcoming "Barbie" movie. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling with a full head of platinum-blonde hair, the film has started a cultural phenomenon that is being called Barbiecore. In it, everything is pink — pink nails, pink outfits, pink makeup — but the hair is very, very blonde.

Ever since promotional photos from the film were released, we've seen an uptick in celebrities getting this Barbie-inspired hair colour. This list includes Lily James, Zoey Deutch, Megan Rapineo, Lorde, and even Lil Nas X. The term "Barbie blonde" also saw a recent spike in Google searches, proving that this rise in interest goes beyond your run-of-the-mill end-of-summer dye job.

If you want to undergo your own Barbie makeover, there are a few things you should keep in mind. You also may not realise that you have options. "Barbie blonde is considered a one-process blonde, which can range from platinum to a soft champagne blond to even a more icy platinum blond," Cassondra Kaeding, celebrity hairstylist and Redken brand ambassador, tells POPSUGAR. "The tone will depend on the client's preference and your colourist can help you choose the tone that is the best fit for your skin tone as well as how light or dark your natural hair colour is."

To figure out if the Barbie blonde hair-colour trend is right for you, first consult with your stylist. It's important to note that this isn't a low-maintenance style by any means. "Any one-process colour or bleach and tone can be very taxing on your hair," says Kaeding. "You should find out how long the process will take and how long the colour can be maintained." While it's possible for those with light and dark hair to achieve the look, it's easier to lift light brown and blonde shades to be even lighter than it is to take someone with dark brown or black hair to that level.

Another important factor to keep in mind, regardless of your base colour, is the cost of attaining this ultra-bright blonde hue. "Barbie blonde can be a lengthy and expensive process," she says. After the process is complete, you'll want to overhaul your hair-care routine with products meant for blonde hair, like purple shampoos and conditioners. To keep the tone of your colour in tip-top shape and banish the brassiness that's bound to eventually plague your ends, a hair gloss, like Redken's in-salon Shades EQ Gloss Colour or the DpHue Gloss+ Semi-permanent Hair Colour and Deep Conditioner (£32), can help get your colour back where it's supposed to be.

If you're willing to put in the time, effort, and money, then you might have just found your next hair colour. Keep scrolling for more inspiration for the Barbie blond trend. Now let's go party.
