The Best Natural Skin Care, Hair Care, and Makeup You Can Pick Up at Holland and Barrett

09/09/2020 - 08:50 PM

We all have go-to places to pick up our favourite beauty products [1] and whilst we'll always be devoted to them, we often forget that there are other unexpected beauty gems hiding on our local high street. One of our favourite places to discover new beauty products is the same place we shop for vitamins and herbal teas. Yes, we're talking about Holland and Barrett. The health food shop chain doesn't just do healthy snacks and supplements, it also stocks beautiful organic, natural, vegan, and cruelty-free beauty products.

If you prefer to buy organic and natural skincare, haircare, and makeup, you're sure to discover some treasures in Holland and Barrett, from much-loved old favourites like Weleda and Dr Bronner's, newer ingredient-focussed brands like Q&A, as well as better-for-the-environment brands like Ethique and Faith in Nature — our humble Holland and Barrett has it all.

Read on to discover some of our favourite skincare, haircare, and makeup products that you can pick up at Holland and Barrett. There are so many great buys, we honestly had a hard time whittling the list down.

Dr Bronner's Lavender Pure-Castile Liquid Soap

If you're all about the calming vibes when it comes to soap, look no further than Dr Bronner's Lavender Pure-Castile Liquid Soap [2] (£12). Formulated with a bunch of skin-loving oils, the soap moisturises skin as well as it cleans. Dr Bronner's also holds the coveted status of being a B Corporation [3], which means they're committed to balancing purpose with profit — and it's no easy feat. This product uses organic and certified fair trade ingredients and is packaged in a 100 percent post-consumer recycled bottles.

Ethique

Ethique is on a mission to give up the bottle. This entirely plastic-free brand has prevented over 8 million plastic bottles from being made and disposed of to date and is on a mission to reach 50 million by 2025. Oh, and the company is entirely carbon-neutral. Ethique creates all kinds of products, including shampoo, face cleanser, deodorant, and even dog shampoo — all in bar form. If you're not sure what to try first, the Ethique Hair, Face & Body Trial Pack [4] (£11) is a perfect place to start.

Childs Farm Moisturiser

If I could only use one moisturiser for the rest of my life, it'd be the Childs Farm Moisturiser [5] (£4). With five star reviews and frequently going viral thanks to its ability to calm eczema-prone skin [6], this is an incredible all-rounder. I use it on my face, body, and any dry or sore skin — it's an instant soother for sensitive skin and something I can always count on.

Afrocenchix Sheen Moisturising Hair Spray

Afrocenchix [7] was founded by Joycelyn and Rachael, who after meeting at university, shared their frustrations with products that claimed to be tailored for afro and natural hair but didn't live up to expectations. On a quest to find high quality, natural, and sustainably-sourced products without any luck, they created their own. After creating a hair oil in 2009 that quickly sold out at a community fair in Neasden, North West London, they set out on a mission to bring high-quality products that are kind to everyone (even those who are eczema-prone) and the planet. One of the favourites stocked at Holland and Barrett is the Afrocenchix Sheen Moisturising Hair Spray [8] (£12). With solid five star rating, people note that the formula isn't too watery, incredibly hydrating (getting through their braids), and doesn't leave hair feeling crisp or dry.

This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray

Pillow spray: it's one of those products you think is totally unnecessary until you try it and get completely hooked. One of my favourites is the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray [9] (£19.50). The blend of lavender, vetivert, and camomile works wonders if you struggle to wind down at nighttime. Plus, it feels extra special to incorporate into your nighttime ritual. The bottle also lasts forever as one spritz every evening is plenty.

Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil

It's no surprise that the Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil [10] (£20) has nearly 200 five star reviews on the Holland and Barrett website — it's that good. The versatile oil contains 100 percent certified organic rosehip seed, which is known for delivering deep nourishment to the skin. Some people claim that it works wonders for their scars and stretch marks, too.

Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer Plum

If you're not into heavy lipsticks, consider trying a coloured lip balm. We love the Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer Plum [11] (£6) as it contains a combination of shea butter and beeswax to hydrate lips; plus, this twinkly reddish-purple hue is seriously gorgeous.

Green People Scent Free Sun Lotion SPF30

Sun protection is an absolute must, but we know the struggle is real when it comes to finding an SPF that you actually like. The Green People Scent Free Sun Lotion SPF30 [12] (£24) is a mineral sunscreen and although it's a little on the pricy side, it soaks into the skin wonderfully and gives great protection. Thanks to the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, it's an ideal option for people with sensitive skin types or those prone to prickly heat.

Magnitone WipeOut SuperNaturals Bamboo Microfibre Make-Up Cleansing Cloths

We're all for reducing waste caused by cotton pads and makeup wipes and with brilliant products like Magnitone WipeOut SuperNaturals Bamboo Microfibre Make-Up Cleansing Cloths [13] (£20), there's no excuse to still be using single-use remover products at home. With just water, these wipes can remove even the most stubborn of makeup, though we prefer to add a splash of micellar water just to be sure we're removing every speck of grime. Once you're done, just throw them into the washing machine and reuse.

REN Perfect Canvas Jelly Cleanser

REN Perfect Canvas Jelly Cleanser [14] (£25) is the most comforting, whipped jelly-like textured cleansing balm, and we adore it. The texture and combination of sunflower, meadowfoam, and grape seed oil melts away makeup and SPF from the day leaving skin feeling squeaky clean without any unwanted dry or tight feeling after using.

Faith In Nature Wild Rose Body Wash

If you prefer to have no SLS or parabens in your body wash, one of our favourites is the Faith In Nature Wild Rose Body Wash [15] (£4). It contains a trifecta of rosy goodness (not the old-school grandma kind), rose essential oil, rose water, and rose hip oil — bathtime never smelt so good. The thin liquid formula goes a long way and foams just enough to quickly wash you entire body. If you've fallen in love with it as much as we have, you can now buy a five litre refill bottle of the stuff to reduce plastic bottle waste.

Weleda Skin Food

You'll find a tube of Weleda Skin Food [16] (£12.50) in every makeup artist's kit. It has an incredible thick formula, which deeply hydrates dry skin; acting almost as a protective layer. It's super versatile and can be used as a hydrating mask, applied to the hands and body, used to spot-treat areas that need extra TLC, and also mixed with lighter creams and applied all over your face. To us, Skin Food is a makeup bag must-have.

So Eco Stippling Brush

Decent, affordable, vegan makeup brushes [17] can sometimes be hard to find, that's why we love So Eco Stippling Brush [18] (£6). It's made with bamboo, recyclable aluminium, and contains synthetic bristles meaning it's cruelty-free. And it's not just good for the planet, this stippling brush creates the most flawless foundation base with minimal effort required.

Gallinée Hand Cream

We've tried many hand creams in our time so when we find a good one, we can't help but shout about it from the rooftops. The Gallinée Hand Cream [19] (£12) is perfect if you're suffering with dry, frequently washed and sanitised hands (which, let's be honest, is all of us right now). It's patented triple biotic complex of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics support your skin's microbiome, helping to make them feel ultra protected and moisturised.

Q&A Hyaluronic Acid

One of my favourite brands right now is Q&A. It's an affordable, no frills, fuss-free skincare brand with easy-to-use and effective products. In my opinion, there's not much more you could ask for when it comes to skincare. The Q&A Hyaluronic Acid [20] (£6.50) is a current staple of mine when my skin is feeling extra parched. It's non-sticky (which you find in a lot of hyaluronic acid formulas), glides over my skin, and works brilliantly under makeup.

The Natural Deodorant Co Clean Deodorant Balm

More people than ever are turning to natural deodorant formulas [21]. If you're not sure where to turn, consider picking up The Natural Deodorant Co Clean Deodorant Balm [22] (£8) on your next trip to Holland and Barrett. It contains a dream team of sodium bicarbonate to prevent odour-causing bacteria and magnesium oxide, which absorbs any moisture to provide maximum protection.

Sukin Facial Moisturiser

Thanks to a combination of rosehip, avocado, sesame seed, and jojoba oil, the Sukin Facial Moisturiser [23] (£2.50) is extremely moisturising and perfect for irritated skin, all whilst being incredibly light-weight. It's paraben-free, if that's important to you, and is extremely affordable.

Holland & Barrett CBD Serum

If you suffer from inflammation, Holland & Barrett CBD Serum [24] (£20) might just do the trick. The blend of hemp and CBD oils help to soothe irritated skin without clogging the pores, thanks to the fact the formula is so silky and lightweight.

Urban Veda Radiance Replenishing Night Cream

Dry skin sufferers, this could be your new favourite moisturiser. Urban Veda Radiance Replenishing Night Cream [25] (£20) formula is non-greasy, hydrating, and wonderful-smelling — we can't get enough of it.
