The Best New Skin Care, Makeup, and Hair Care Launching in April 2021

Dr. Dennis Gross All Physical Lightweight Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 (£46) is a new broad-spectrum, oil-free formula that's silky, lightweight, and doesn't leave behind a white cast. The secret is in the formulation, which uses non-nano zinc oxide (meaning the particles are a bit bigger), that's blended with antioxidants like lingonberry, sea buckthorn, ferulic acid, and bearberry, all of which help add another element of protection for your skin. What we really love about this facial sunscreen, however, is that it works a treat under makeup. While it starts out shiny, after a minute that shine dissipates, and it's not the least bit sticky or greasy, meaning it won't disrupt your foundation or concealer, or cause it to pill.

The Drunk Elephant Protini Peptide Resurf Serum (£69) is aimed at reinforcing and resurfacing the skin. Like the brand's Protini Moisturiser, this serum is packed with peptides (11 different kinds, to be exact), as well as plant-derived growth factors (to help jump-start your skin cells to do things, like grow and divide, or make more collagen and elastin), amino acids, and hydrating ingredients like sodium hyaluronate and sodium PCA. On top of all of that, it also contains 10 percent lactic acid, the gentler alpha hydroxy acid that is both a chemical exfoliant and humectant. Use it in the morning and at night to keep skin smooth, moisturised, and glowy — and to help smooth fine lines and improve skin's texture.

Customers asked, and Carbon Theory listened. After years of feedback and requests, the brand has finally created a liquid version of its bestselling Breakout Control Facial Cleansing Bar. The Carbon Theory Charcoal & Tea Tree Oil Breakout Control Facial Cleansing Wash (£8) is the same great, spot-clearing formula (featuring charcoal and tea tree oil) packaged in a tube that is made from sugarcane, a renewable raw material, and is 100 percent recyclable. Even better news? It still costs under a tenner.

The Lumene Nordic Ageless Ajaton Radiant Youth Night Cream (£36), which is part of the Finnish brand's four-part range that launches this month, is a gorgeous, silky cream that not only feels like you're wrapping your face in cashmere but also leaves your complexion smoother, firmer, and all-around happier — thanks to ingredients like copper peptides and plant extracts that help soothe the skin and leave it brighter and glowier.

Hello Sunday is a new brand that just landed in the UK (via Cult Beauty and its own website) that wants to get people excited about wearing sunscreen. It promises sheer, lightweight, convenient formulas that protect your skin and play nicely under makeup, which means they're not greasy, claggy, sticky, or smell like coconuts. The well-edited line includes two face moisturisers and two body moisturisers (one with SPF 30, the other with SPF 50), an SPF 50 lip balm, an SPF 30 hand cream, an SPF 45 serum, a clear sunscreen stick with SPF 30, and the Hello Sunday The One That's Got It All Facial Primer SPF 50 (£20), which is a face primer with serious sun protection (as long as you apply enough, that is). It has a balm-y texture and doesn't pill when you layer foundation or concealer on top of it, and — great news for the summer — is both sweat and water resistant.

In addition to the brand's proprietary Protida complex that contains skin-soothing probiotics, the new Aurelia London Resurfacing Serum (£64) also contains bakuchiol (the plant-based ingredient that has similar effects on the skin as retinol, i.e. stimulate collagen production and smooth the surface of the skin) and 5% niacinamide, which in this formula helps reduce spots, regulate sebum production, and even out skin tone over time. The combination of the bakuchiol and niacinamide with the probiotics ensures the former two ingredients do their thing without causing your skin barrier to totally freak out.

Elemis is jumping on the sensory beauty trend with this new, limited edition version of its iconic cleansing Balm. The Elemis Pro-Collagen Watermint Cleansing Balm (£44) is the same great skin-coddling, makeup-removing formula, but with a refreshing ocean-inspired scent.

When it comes to tackling discolouration on the skin, the Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Dark Spot Serum (£49) is a triple threat. In addition to 10 percent vitamin C, the serum contains licorice root extract, which inhibits the production of an enzyme needed to produce melanin (pigment) in the skin (it also helps remove excess pigment). The formula also includes a white shiitake mushroom extract, an ingredient the brand claims also helps fade dark spots.

Huda Kattan's new Wishful Yo Detox Face & Body Enzyme Scrub (£34) helps tackle breakouts and dull skin whether they're on your face or on your back and chest. The formula contains skin-brightening pineapple and papaya extracts — which feature in the original Yo Glow formula — as well as charcoal (to deep clean the skin and absorb excess oil) as well as AHAs and BHAs (alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids), which help both clear out clogged pores and remove lingering dead cells from the surface of your skin.

Jierra Beauty founder Danielle Corbert quit her job and launched a skin-care brand during the pandemic after realising that she was using well-being practices to help her own battle with stress and anxiety. After delving deeper, Corbert found that consumers were looking for products that not only were results-driven but helped calm and relax them, too. That's how the Jierra Beauty Superior Complexion Antioxidant Serum (£54) was born. The formula is packed full of vitamins and omegas with ingredients like baobab oil, pomegranate oil, bakuchiol, rosehip oil, and much more.

Formulated with with charcoal and organic nettle, Typology Purifying Mask (£22) helps to regular excess sebum production and deeply clean clogged pores to leave skin looking and feeling fresh.

Q+A is known for taking some of the guesswork out of skin care with its clear packaging and fuss-free (but effective) formulas. The newest Rosehip Cleansing Oil (£10) launch is no different. Rosehip has high antioxidant properties and when paired with avocado, argan, and hempseed oil, it makes for an excellent hydrating cleaner, which removes all traces of grime and dirt with zero irritation — perfect for sensitive skin.

Landing in the UK in mid-April, the Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Deep Poor Cleanser (£28) is inspired by the brand's best-selling Pore Refining Mask. It contains the same mineral-rich Australian pink clay, which helps clear out congestions in your pores. The gel formula also contains exfoliating plant extracts, witch hazel (a natural astringent), and macadamia oil, the latter of which helps keep skin soft and comfortable after you've washed your face.

The Indeed Labs In-Ceramide Daily Moisture Cream (£25), launching 15 April, is formulated with not one, not two, but three types of ceramides in order to help strengthen the skin barrier treatment. It works for all skin types but is particularly great if you have sensitive or irritated skin. Use it as a nighttime moisturiser and also under makeup in the morning.

If you've ever been interested in trying Foreo's fan-favourite cleansing brush, this might be your month. The new Foreo Luna Play Smart 2 (£79) is rechargeable and lasts longer than the original (1,000 uses; the Luna Play lasted 100 uses and was nonrechargeable), it measures skin's moisture levels (which you can see via the Foreo app), and the intensities are changed depending on those skin readings. Not only that, but because it's a touch smaller than the original Play brush, the price point is slightly lower.

Pai The Impossible Glow Bronzing Drops (£29) is a skin-care serum and liquid bronzer in one pretty dropper bottle. Loaded with good-for-your-skin ingredients like hyaluronic acid, sea kelp extract (for hydration), and lemon fruit water (rich in vitamin C), the shimmery bronze liquid can be either added to your favourite moisturiser to give your skin a subtle glow, or applied directly to your skin for a more intense bronze hue. It can even double as a gorgeous highlighter if you dab it onto cheekbones with your fingertips.

MAC has another big launch in April with the expansion of its MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pots (£17.50). Originally only in three neutral tones, the cream-to-powder eye shadow is now available in 24 colours that range from basics like black and white to shimmers and holographic shades, as well as some fun '70s-inspired matte hues like robin's egg blue and soft peach.

The Stila Stay All Day Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner (£16) is one of our favourite longwearing eyeliner formula — the black and brown hues have been in our makeup bags for years. This month, as part of the brand's summer 2021 collection, the brand introduces four new metallic shades that are perfect for brighter, sunnier weather. Inspired by the brand's much-loved foundation stick, Lancôme has now introduced the Lanôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Blush Stick (£29.50), a luxurious cream formula available in three shades: Ambitious Pink, Daring Peach, and Wild Ruby.

By Terry is getting in the mood for summer with its limited-edition By Terry Brightening CC Palettes in Beach Bomb (£42) The rose-embossed palette contains four gorgeous shades of the brand's best-selling illuminating powder, all of which are warm in tone and luminous in texture, and can be used in a multitude of ways. The colours include a peachy champagne, a vivid coral (which can be used on the cheeks or the eyes), a vivid fuchsia, and a rosy bronze.

In April, Dame Pat McGrath brought back her matte liquid lipstick, giving the decadent, long-lasting, and intensely-pigmented formula a permanent place in her product range (we originally saw the formula in her initial Lip Kits). The Pat McGrath Labs LiquiLust Legendary Wear Matte Lipstick (£28) comes in eight shades, including Elson 4 (a vivid blue red, shown ere), as well as few pinks and a range of nudes — from soft beige (Nude Cabaret) to a deep bronzed rose (Flesh 3).

Hermès launched its line of incredibly luxe, incredibly creamy Rouge Hermès Satin Lipsticks (£62 each) a little over a year ago, and this month, the brand debuts three limited-edition shades for spring/summer 2021. Packaged in chic, colour-blocked (and refillable) tubes, the beautiful new hues include Corail Aqua (an orange-tinged poppy red), Rose Oasis (a vibrant rosy colour that toes the line between fuchsia and magenta), and Beige Ébloui (a cool-toned medium pink).

When creating the Westman Atelier Squeaky Clean Liquid Lip Balm (£35), which launches exclusively at Cult Beauty this month, makeup artist Gucci Westman wanted a hydrating treatment product that would still leave behind a beautiful hint of colour. Available in six shades (including Nou Nou, a cool pink tone), the formula is a "gel-ified oil", explained Westman, which means it doesn't feel goopy or sticky. In addition to moisturising dry lips, "it's made to give you that pick-me-up when you're feeling a little blah", Westman said.

Super creamy and incredibly, the Huda Beauty Power Bullet Cream Glow (£22) is the newest lipstick formula from Huda Kattan. Available in 14 shades — 7 pretty pink and 7 spicy brown nudes (shown here in Self Made) — the formula offers medium coverage (although it's definitely buildable) with a hint of shine.

The Votary Tinted Lip Gloss (£40) follows the same ethos as the rest of the brand's gorgeous, botanical-laced formulas. The sheer, raspberry-tinted gloss contains 12 natural plant oils, along with squalane, which helps keep lips hydrated. And during April and May, Votary will be donating 10 percent of its sales to The Eve Appeal in honour of the charity's Get Lippy campaign, which aims to raise awareness of gynaecological symptoms.

Part of the makeup brand's summer collection, the Illamasqua Hydra Lip Tints (£20 each), combine two contrasting colours that, when applied, blend together to create a pretty, sheer tint. For instance, pale peach and red create a rosy pink, whilst orange and green combine into a soft mauve. "I chose quite extreme and unusual lip colours for each part", Pablo Rodriguez, Illamasqua's global director of artistry said via press release. "After blending them together, the results are very subtle and super easy to wear. Best way to apply them is directly onto the lips, positioning the centre stripe vertically, so when sliding the bullet from left to right and vice versa, the two shades merge."

Lottie London launched its faux freckle pen in 2019 and it became an instant best-seller. This month, the brand finally introduces a darker shade of the pen — the Lottie London Freckle Tint in Deep (£7) — that allows people with deeper complexions experience the product.

Listen up, blondes, because the Davines Heart of Glass collection is here to help. The range consists of four products — shampoo, conditioner, treatment, and glaze treatment — but we're particularly loving the Davines Heart of Glass Sheer Glaze (£22.50). It's a thermal-activated leave-on fluid specifically designed to hydrate and smooth blonde hair, as well as protect from heat whilst you're styling. It's formulated with the Davines-patented Fortifying Botanical Shield, which provides hair fibres with more elasticity to help extend the duration of your blow-dry. Simply apply on towel-dried hair, and blow-dry your hair as usual.

And since this is Davines we're talking about, not only is the product great, but it's also not harming the environment, either. The Heart of Glass range is produced with energy entirely from renewable sources, and all products are carbon-neutral and made with postconsumer recycled plastic.

Launching exclusively at Look Fantastic, the Olaplex. No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask (£26) is the brand's first at-home treatment mask that helps both hydrate and repair dry, damaged hair. The formula, which is incredibly rich and silky, comes packaged in a mess-free, easy-to-dispense pump, and contains not only the brand's exclusive bond-repairing ingredient (bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate), which helps repair the broken disfulphide bonds in the hair follicle, but also a long list of oils (like avocado and sunflower seed) that help to add moisture and shine throughout. For severely damaged hair, the brand recommends pairing the mask with its No.0 Bond Building Hair Treatment and No.3 Hair Perfector once a week or as needed.

L'Oréal Paris is singlehandedly trying to reinvent the shampoo market this year, first with its 8 Minute Wonder Water, and now with its More Than Shampoo Range, which the brand describes as a "dry clean for your hair". The formula is incredibly rich and creamy, containing a concentrated amount of lipids, which are usually found in hair treatments, leaving hair softer and shinier than before you used it. It's available in three different formulas: Colour Protect, Dream Lengths, and the L'Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil More Than Shampoo (£3.50).

Packaged in an aluminium shaker bottle to ensure it's recyclable, the We Are Paradoxx Detox Dry Shampoo (£20) is a 90% natural formula that uses charcoal and kaolin clay to absorb excess oil from your hair and scalp. Simply shake the power into your roots and massage in with your fingers, and your hair will look as good as new for another day.

In addition to being plastic-free and better for the environment, the Aveda Limited Edition Shampure Nurturing Shampoo Bar (£14) is also silicone-free, sulphate-free, cruelty-free, and vegan. And the thing is? It is all that and leaves your hair feeling soft and clean. The best part, however, is that throughout Earth Month (so the entire month of April), Aveda will donate $5 from the sale of each Shampoo Bar to nonprofit partner Charity: Water, an organisation that aims to provide clean water to people around the world in need.

The Frank Body Exfoliating Scalp Serum (£17) is an exfoliating, water-based serum that helps break down dead skin cells lingering on your scalp and dissolve away product build-up, which is does with the help of lactic acid. However, the formula also has a soothing and calming effect on the scalp, thanks to the addition of prebiotics and witch hazel extract.

Everything about the James Read Tan Glow 20 Tan Mousse (£30) is fast. The formula — which feature a colour guide so that you know exactly where you're applying it — dries down in just 60 seconds, meaning you don't have to awkwardly stand around half naked whilst it dries. The golden glow, on the other hand, develops in just as 20 minutes, although the longer you leave it on, the bronzier your fake tan will become.

An intoxicating blend of sweet and spicy, the Sweet Diamond Pink Pepper 25 Eau de Parfum is the brand's most intense fragrance, containing 25 percent perfume oil (it also, coincidentally, took 25 different formulations to land on the exact one, hence the number in the name). Co-founder Mona Kattan wanted the scent to capture feelings of love and romance, which she did by working with her team of perfumes to combine bold floral notes of rose, royal lily, and vanilla orchid, spices like saffron and pink pepper, and a deep, woody base of sandalwood, patchouli, musk, and amber.

One of our favorite natural (and sustainable!) deodorant brands has come out with a new scent for spring. Introducing the Wild Lemon Meringue Natural Deodorant (£25), which the brand promises "emulates lemon meringue pie made with lemon curd filling and fluffy, sweet meringue topping". Apparently, it was a scent requested by Wild fans, but if you're interested, act quickly — there are only 5,000 available.

Let's face it: historically, hair-removal creams haven't been a particularly pleasant experience . . . until now. Scented like honeydew melon, the Sunny The Body Hair Removal Cream (£5.50) is here to help take the unpleasantries — you know the smell of rotten eggs — out of the process. Look, we're not saying it doesn't smell at all (it doesn't claim that) — it's definitely got a hint of that removal-cream smell to it — but it's nowhere near as strong as many of the formulas out there, and the added scent of melon absolutely comes through. The product comes with a nifty spatula that promises to get every last hair in as little as three minutes. Easy!
