The Best New Makeup Products Launching in July 2021

19/07/2021 - 03:15 PM

Many of us haven't been wearing a whole lot of makeup over the past year. While lockdown provided us with an opportunity to get our skin-care regimens sorted and indulge in sensory beauty experiences [1] as a way to manage stress and anxiety, it didn't offer a lot of opportunity — or reason, really — to meticulously apply foundation or break out the bold eyeshadow and bright lipstick (although, if you did manage to wear a full face of makeup during lockdown, we seriously applaud you). My WFH makeup look consisted of three products: concealer, mascara, and tinted lip balm, and that was on a good day. Some mornings, I barely had the willpower to wash my face.

As the UK opens back up, however, and we can finally hang out at pubs and restaurants with our friends, attend (and dance at!) weddings, and watch Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane bring football home, many of us are excitedly taking our makeup out of hibernation. Not only that, but beauty brands are gifting us with loads of new launches, so much so that it's hard to keep track — but not to worry, that's where we come in. Every month, we round up the most exciting makeup launches coming to the UK, from classic brands to indie newcomers [2] and all the liners, lipsticks, and mascaras in between.

When it comes to what's arriving in the UK in July, there are several extra-special launches this month. Carbon-neutral makeup brand HIGHR Collective has added three nude shades to its range [3], Huda Beauty tapped two of its UK-based beauty advisers to develop limited-edition hues of its bestselling Liquid Matte Lipstick [4], and Hourlgass Cosmetics has launched a customisable eyeshadow palette. Keep reading to discover these and the rest of the makeup newness arriving in the UK this month.

Jones Beauty

Legendary makeup artist Bobbi Brown's new beauty brand, Jones Road, finally arrives in the UK this month. [5] The range includes both cosmetics and skin care that puts an emphasis on glowing skin and the natural, no-makeup makeup look — Brown's signature. "It has always been my philosophy that makeup should enhance your natural features, not cover them up and Jones Road does just that," Brown wrote in a blog post on her website [6] introducing the brand. The brand uses both natural and synthetic ingredients, vetting everything that goes into the products for safety and effectiveness. "Bobbi's code of clean beauty means that all Jones Road products adhere to even more stringent standards than those set by the European Union, eliminating over 2,700 potentially toxic ingredients, including parabens, phthalates, sulphates, PEGs, cyclic silicones, BPA, and EDTA," the brand explained via press release.

We can't wait to try every single Jones Road product, but we're especially interesting in giving the concealer in the range, Jones Beauty The Face Pencil [7] (£23), a go.

Nars Radiant Creamy Color Corrector

Developed to work in tandem with the brand's bestselling Radiant Creamy Concealer, the new Nars Radiant Creamy Color Corrector [8] (£24) is unlike most colour-correct products on the market. Instead of being a pastel colour like green, blue, or purple, which can sometimes leave behind a slight tint, each shade of the Radiant Creamy Color Correct — whether light, medium, medium-deep, or deep — contains a touch of red that helps to neutralise any blue or purple tones in the skin for a brighter, more radiant-looking complexion.

Typology Concealer

The Typology Concealer [9] (£19) is inspired by the brand's fan favourite Tinted Serums, and is similarly a makeup/skin care hybrid product. Available in six shades, the high-coverage formula contains caffeine (to address puffiness), niacinamide (for tone and texture), and cornflower hydrolate, which is a naturally-derived ingredient that helps reduce puffiness and soften the skin (the brand sells an under-eye toner centred around cornflower hydrolate). Best for using under the eyes, the Typology concealer can also cover up redness and spots.

MAC Magic Extension Mascara

The MAC Magic Extension Mascara [10] (£20) may just be the closest thing you'll get to lash extensions in a tube. The volumising and lengthening formula contains five millimetre-long synthetic fibres, which are some of the longest on the market (on average, lengthening fibres in other mascaras are 1.5 or 2 millimetres long). The mascara features a cone-shaped brush that makes it easy to comb through lashes and catch every itty-bitty lash hair.

Hourglass Cosmetics Curator Custom Palette

We're incredibly excited over this next launch, which allows you to customise your own eyeshadow palette to ensure no pan goes untouched. The Hourglass Cosmetics Curator Custom Palette [11] (£38-£156) gives you the option of creating either a 3-pan or a 5-pan shadow palette, choosing from a range of 40 newly formulated press powder shades that come in four different finishes — matte, satin, metallic, and shimmer (you can also purchase an individual shadow if you find a colour you really love). The palettes themselves are made from tin and postconsumer recycled (PCR) plastic, whilst the individual shadow pans are made from fully recyclable aluminium. And like the rest of Hourglass's products, the powders are vegan and cruelty-free.

Chanel Le Stylo Yeux Waterproof

Chanel Le Stylo Yeux Waterproof [12] (£24) is one of my favourite eyeliners of all time. The formula is creamy and long-lasting, and the shades are not only beautiful, but also incredibly flattering (I own three different shades, all of which are discontinued sadly). This month, Chanel is gifting us with seven new hues, including Prune Intense (a matte purple), Bleu Métal (a satiny cobalt blue), Gris Graphite (a silver grey with a satin finish), Vert Émeraude (mallard green), Or Antique (a warm gold), Rose Cuivré (a coppery pink), and Khaki Métal (a khaki tone with a metallic finish).

Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Liner in Navy Noir

Victoria Beckham [13] continues to expand the shade range of her best-selling Satin Kajal Liner and we thank her for it. The newest addition is the Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Liner in Navy Noir [14] (£22), a gorgeous midnight colour that's dark enough to define your eyes but not so bright and blue that you'd feel hesitant to wear it to the office.

L'Oréal Paris Volume Million Lashes Balm Noir Mascara

The L'Oréal Paris Volume Million Lashes Balm Noir Mascara [15] (£9) is a creamy volumising mascara with a balm-like texture that's made using mineral-based pigments, natural oils (to condition the lashes), and Pullulan, which is a new sugar polymer derived from potato and tapioca that helps with staying power. The concentrated formula is fragrance-free, ophthalmologist tested, and safe for sensitive eyes.

KVD Beauty Planet Fanatic Eyeshadow Palette

The fact that it contains 14 gorgeous selection of super pigmented shimmery and matte eyeshadows is just the first reason to love the KVD Beauty Planet Fanatic Eyeshadow Palette [16] (£38). The second is that the plastic palette isn't just fully recyclable, it's easy to recycle because it's clear and doesn't contain any metal pans, mirrors, or magnets. That means, all you have to do when you finish the shadows is throw the palette in the recycling bin — no disassembling required.

By Joy Adenuga Eye Brushes

Makeup artist Joy Adenuga [17] is the genius behind some of the POPSGAR team's favourite makeup brushes, like her Hey Guys Foundation Brush 002 and Big Mama Large Powder Brush 001. Well, this month, Adenuga answers our beauty prayers and is expanding with a range of eye brushes, which will be available to purchase on her website [18] from 28 July. There will be five new brushes — 006 Liner/Brow, 007 Smudger, 008 Blender, 009 Shadow pPacer, and 010 Shadow Placer — which will be sold separately as well as in a set for £50.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Bronzer

The standout product in ABH's summer collection is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Bronzer [19] (£32), which is available in seven shades — from Sun Kissed (for fair to light skin tones) to Cool Brown (for very complexions) to ensure that the range is inclusive of as many skin tones as possible. The creamy, lightweight formula gives skin a natural-looking sun-kissed effect, but can also double as a contouring product.

Glossier Solar Paint

Glossier truly has nailed it when it comes to base products. Cloudpaint, Stretch Concealer, and Futuredew have all become firm favourites, but there was always one product that us (and fans around the world) wanted next from the brand — a bronzer, and that time has finally come. Introducing: Glossier Solar Paint [20] (£17), which in typical Glossier fashion, isn't like many bronzers we've tried before. Available in four shimmery shades, the formula is a silky gel-crème that dries down to a matte consistency with a luminous shimmer. The formula is pigmented enough to get that obvious warmth to your skin, but not too much that it's overpowering. It also has enough slip to blend before drying down, adding to its ease of use. You can read our team's full review of the bronzer here [21]

Drunk Elephant O-Bloos Rosi Drops

The Drunk Elephant O-Bloos Rosi Drops [22] is a new staple in our summer makeup bag. The adorable little bottle houses a liquid blush that not only gives you the prettiest peachy-pink flush that makes your skin look fresh and glowy (the formula has a subtle shimmer to it that adds radiance, rather than glitter), but also helps keep skin soft and soothed, thanks to the addition of omega fatty acids in the formula. Lightweight and easy to use, all you have to do to apply it is shake the bottle and tap the liquid onto your cheeks.

HIGHR Collective Lipstick in Rhapsody 21

This month, HIGHR Collective, the organic and carbon neutral makeup brand, added three nude lipsticks to its range, which already includes two red and three pink hues. Whilst we adore all three of the new shades (you can see our review of the entire collection here [23]), we especially love the HIGHR Collective Lipstick in Rhapsody 21 [24] (£22), which is a medium-toned honey brown colour. "With the return of the '90s nude in full swing, Rhapsody 21 is the ultimate modern cool-girl honey," makeup artist James Molloy [25] told POPSUGAR (he did the makeup for the brand's campaign images). "It's brilliant as an everyday nude [lipstick] for dark warm skin tones or dabbed on fair skin tones for a deep '90s vibe."

La Perla Matte Silk Lipstick

This month, La Perla — one of the world's most famous lingerie brands — makes its first foray into beauty. La Perla Beauty is a comprehensive range encompassing fragrance, bath and body, and cosmetics; and if you're someone who loves lipstick, then get ready to add another tube to your wish list. The La Perla Matte Silk Lipstick [26] (£47), shown here in Poppy Red, is a full-coverage vegan formula that's easy to apply and comfortable to wear, and, unsurprisingly, features a bullet embossed with a sexy lace-like pattern. The lipstick is available in eight shades that are all different iterations of red, from a taupe-tinged rose to a moody plum tone.

Vieve Lip Dew

The Vieve Lip Dew [27] (£17) since the day it launched. A hybrid of a lip oil and a gloss, the formula is anything but sticky, and actually makes your lips feel more hydrated after you've swiped it on your lips (and for a couple hours after, too). The sheer, champagne-coloured gloss is full of finely-milled gold and silver shimmer, and can be worn on its own or layered over your favourite lip liner or lipstick to add shine, dimension, and a hit of warmth. "I wanted to create the ultimate lip transformer that could elevate any lip colour with an irresistible gloss, as well as worn alone to provide deep hydration and fuller looking lips," makeup artist and Vieve founder, Jamie Genevive, said of the product via press release.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in Girl on Fire and Queen of Sheba

This month, Huda Beauty launches two extra-special shades of its Liquid Matte Lipstick. Pre-COVID, founder Huda Kattan flew two of her UK beauty advisers — one from Harrods, the other from Selfridges — to the brand's headquarters in Dubai, where they were each able to collaborate on a limited-edition colour for their respective store [28]. The result: Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in Girl on Fire [29] (£18), which is a medium red with pink undertones that is available exclusively at Selfridges, and Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in Queen of Sheba [30] (£18), a cool-toned pinky nude that is available exclusively at Harrods.

Trinny London Lip Luxe in Yasmin

Trinny London Lip Luxe in Yasmin [31] (£22) is one of the two new Lip Luxe shades launching this month. The hue is a gorgeous cool-toned terracotta )so like the colour of a very red plum, whilst the second shade, Pippa, is a vibrant warm cherry red.

By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Balm

Available in six easy-to-wear neutral tones, the By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Balm [32] (£29) is a tinted lip balm that is not only ridiculously hydrating (it contains two different kinds of hyaluronic acid), but is also seriously pigmented. One swipe delivers a rich, opaque layer of colour that rivals any other traditional lipstick in our makeup bags.

Beauty Pie Super Healthy Skin Nourishing Lip Balm SPF 30

The sun doesn't differentiate between the skin on your face and the skin on your lips, so it's important to have a lip balm that contains SPF if you're going to be outside. We recommend the new Beauty Pie Super Healthy Skin Nourishing Lip Balm SPF 30 [33] (£25), which not only provides UVA/UVB protection, but also is seriously hydrating, thanks to ingredients like olive oil squalane and avocado and grapeseed oils.

Clinique Pop Reds Lip + Cheek Lipstick

Clinique aims to make finding your perfect red lipstick a less complicated process with the launch of its Clinique Pop Reds Lip + Cheek Lipstick [34] (£18.50). Each shade in the range was developed to suit a wide variety of skin tones and undertones, meaning no matter which colour you pick — whether it's fiery and vibrant like Red Hot (shown here), or subtler and softer like Roses Are Red — its sure to look extremely flattering.
