Courteney Cox [1] knows that the only thing that might be scarier than being stalked by a masked serial killer is the haircut she wore [2] in Scream 3. Case in point: over the weekend, the actress shared a photo [3] of the homemade costume she wore during her Halloween [4] festivities, and the costume in question poked fun at the supershort bangs her character, Gale Weathers, sported in the third instalment of the Scream series. In a selfie posted to Instagram, Cox is seen standing in front of someone dressed as Ghostface and holding a large pair of scissors to her forehead.

"Not the bangs!!!!!!!!" she captioned it.

Cox's Scream 3 bangs have become notorious since the movie came out in 2000, and her making fun of them has become a frequent occurrence in the last few years — a Halloween tradition if you will. Last year, for example, she shared a short video of herself [5] celebrating the holiday by rewatching the movie at home. "I thought I'd get in the spirit of things and watch some of the Scream movies," she said. "I chose Scream 3 and I noticed that Gale Weathers has those infamous bangs."

She continued, "I don't think anything's that wrong with it, check it out. I think they're cool. I say I can bring it back." Cox then proceeds to cut her own bangs in the video. The actress also mentioned in an interview [6] with People last year that she sometimes regrets not speaking up about the bangs being way too short.

"At that time in my life, I wasn't the kind of person who would say, 'You know what? These are too short. We need to get new bangs,'" she said. "In reality I should have said, 'No, no, no we have to get new bangs.' I did not stick up for myself and hence I look horrible. That was a big lesson: take care of yourself."
