Ever try to shave the peach fuzz off your face only to have it grow back all prickly after a matter of days? Then when you reach up to touch your skin, you feel like a weird porcupine who will never again be smooth? Dermaflash sees you and not only wants to relieve you of that peach fuzz but also promises to instantly shed the layer of dead skin right underneath it.
There's a good chance you've seen Dermaflash's ads while scrolling through Instagram, or perhaps you recently read about how Lizzo's makeup artist used it before applying the nominee's Grammys look. The company boasts that its namesake product is "the best at-home dermaplaning device to instantly reveal smoother, younger skin."
For the uninitiated, dermaplaning is an exfoliation procedure in which a dermatologist or esthetician uses a sharp, surgical blade to shave the hair off your face. The razor gets so close to your skin that it effortlessly removes the top layer of dirt and grime that topical treatments often can't dissolve. Your face will look pretty raw initially, but in a few days, your skin cells will turn over and you'll be left with flawless, glowing skin.
While in-office dermaplaning has been around for years, at-home products are just now spiking in popularity. Why? Well, getting your face professionally dermaplaned can run you anywhere from $100 to $250 . . . or you can get Dermaflash for $200 and just do it yourself. After seeing such smooth faces in my Instagram feed over and over, I had to call in a sample. Here are the results.
Dermaflash Luxe
It's been five days since using Dermaflash Luxe ($200), and I haven't felt much hair regrowth. I had one unusual breakout on my cheek, but it lasted less than 24 hours before the skin cells did their thing and it cleared up. I'm planning to use the device once a week (it's not recommended for daily use) and see how my complexion improves over time.
There's a pun in here about how "Juice"-y my peachy skin looks, but I can't quite grasp it. Just know that I'm recommending this simply "Cuz I Love You."
Before Using Dermaflash
My skin is 31 years old. It's not terribly dull, but it doesn't have the perpetual glow of a 20-year-old beauty vlogger. Like most women, I have a sprinkle of peach fuzz on my cheeks, and yes, that's a scar near my right eyebrow. (I either got into a tussle with a ferocious pirate or ran into a door when I was 5 — you decide what to believe.)
The Razor Post-Dermaflash Use
This is the device. You have to charge it for a few minutes before it'll work, then click one of two vibration settings depending on how extreme you want your treatment to be. I stuck with the basic level and swept the device down my cheekbones toward my chin, gripping my skin at the top so as to keep it taut. I had to go over some areas a couple of times, but the whole process, including washing my face with the Preflash cleanser and applying the Postflash moisturiser, took less than 10 minutes.
As you can see, the razor collected a good amount of hair and even some literal filth from my face! If you've ever done a pore strip and yanked if off to reveal all the gunk from your nose stuck onto the paper, that's how looking at this feels.
After Using Dermaflash
Here's my face right after I used Dermaflash and applied moisturiser. You can tell my skin is slightly red and tender, but I wouldn't describe it as raw. It felt exceptionally smooth and clean, like my pores could breathe. The deep exfoliation allows products to soak into your skin effortlessly, and I ended up putting on a second coat of cream.
After Using Dermaflash With Light Makeup
I waited a few hours to apply facial makeup, and even then I just swiped some concealer under my eyes and dusted on some light powder. (As a rule, you want to leave your skin alone for as long as possible after any type of facial treatment.)
By this time, my redness had greatly diminished and my face actually looked slightly slimmer in the mirror due to the lack of peach fuzz. My husband couldn't tell what was different, but he did say I looked "pretty." I'll take it.
