Weightlifter Emily Campbell's Gold Medal Shines as Bright as Her Hair

10/08/2022 - 03:55 PM

British weightlifter [1] Emily Campbell won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games on 3 Aug, setting a new personal best and Commonwealth Games record. The Nottingham-born athlete competed in the +87kg category and lifted a combined total of 286kg. As the first woman to win an Olympic medal for Team GB in weightlifting, this isn't the first time Campbell has achieved an impressive goal in her field. She's an inspiration to us all. After the Lionesses won the 2022 Euros at Wembley [2] this weekend, it really is a monumental moment for women's sport.

"I'm absolutely elated," she said after her record-breaking performance. "I knew this would be a tough competition. I knew no one was going to hand it to me on a plate. I knew I would have to work for it but I said whatever I needed to lift today to win that gold medal, I was going to do it. Throughout the week you have seen it doesn't matter what you look like, what shape you are, what size you are, you can pick up a bar and do it. It is not about coming to the Commonwealth Games or coming to the Olympics, it is about doing something you love."

Campbell is fighting for the world to see how beautiful weightlifting is, and speaking of beauty, we are obsessed with Campbell's ever-changing hairstyles. The redhead [3] certainly brings some flair to competitions as her bold and patriotic hairstyles never fail to make us smile. She was even included in Schwarzkopf's Embrace the Power of Colour campaign [4] earlier this year. She said: "In weightlifting I need to feel and look my best to succeed, and that includes my hair colour. My image and my attention to detail enable me to feel empowered whilst lifting. I like to say if I look good, I lift good. Schwarzkopf LIVE enables me to look and feel at my best and in turn do my best." The 28-year-old took to the floor last Wednesday sporting red and white braided space buns that perfectly complemented her new gold medallion. See more of Campbell's daring hair looks ahead.

At this year's Commonwealth Games, Campbell became a gold medallist and showed an incredible red and white hairstyle while competing for England.

The buns were practical, keeping her hair off her face while she competed, but they were also a total look.

Emily Campbell's Hair: Fierce Red Braid For Flag Bearing

While leading the England team out during the Opening Ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Campbell wore a long red braid. She looked fierce. Her snatched contour and glittery cut crease were dreamy as she paraded the St George's flag with diver Jack Laugher on 28 July.
