Have you ever wondered how Jennifer Lopez always has that, well, J Lo glow? There's no denying that the multihyphenate star is naturally beautiful, but her glam team is also second to none. Celebrity makeup artist Scott Barnes is responsible for J Lo's best makeup looks over the years, and with this season's trends being all about the eyes, there's no better person to ask about the top eye makeup trends for fall.

"Everybody's like, 'I love the way J Lo's eyes look,'" Barnes told POPSUGAR. "I feel like women are so ferocious in so many ways, and they can use their beauty to bolster the people around them and make them stronger."

With that in mind, Barnes shared his thoughts on the most popular (and most powerful) eyeshadow trends for the season.

"A trend to look out for is what I'm calling the new feline eye or modern cat eye — a smoky metallic winged look that makes a real statement," said Barnes. Think: J Lo's ultra-sexy Super Bowl 2020 makeup look or her 2020 Oscars After Party glam.

"Get excited about metallics, molten metals, and eye-catching shine, which can be worn alone or combined with neutrals for a gorgeously different look."

If the word "shimmer" scares you when talking about eyeshadow, don't let it — the trend can be worn as subtle or as bold as you'd like. "You know what I love about shimmer: it never goes out of style," said Barnes. "I recently released a limited-edition palette, Mesmerise ($120), which features show-stopping black and metallic multipurpose shadows. The palette is designed to be buildable so you can create a subtle shine or a dramatic smouldering glam look."

Smoky shades of metallics may seem bold for fall, but Barnes argues that this is the year to really make a statement. "I think the biggest change this year, as well as a major influence on this year's trends, are masks," he said. "They cover most of your face so making your eyes pop will be bigger than ever. Usually fall is all about the neutrals as the seasons change, but I think this year making an eye-catching statement will be huge."
