From the Mediterranean to Morocco: These Fragrances Smell Exactly Like Summer Holiday

Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Eau de Parfum (£174) is quite possibly one of the most iconic summer scents to ever launch — a perfume that aims to capture the smell of the Italian Riviera, from the citrus trees to the breeze coming off the Mediterranean. A firm favourite of beauty editors, the scent is loaded with citrus notes (bergamot, Mandarin orange, lemon, bitter orange, orange blossom, and neroli), as well as earthy green notes (rosemary, myrtle, and angelica) and a hint of white florals courtesy of jasmine.

Maison Margiela Replica Beach Walk Fragrance (£80) says what it smells like right on the bottle: sun-kissed, salty skin, which it does through a combination of bergamot, pink pepper, lemon, ylang ylang, and coconut milk.

With Sana Jardin Revolution de la Fleur Eau de Parfum (£95), you're instantly transported to a remote and tropical destination like Bali, Tulum, or Mustique. The scent is a lush bouquet of white florals and roses, with a touch of citrus (that would be neroli) and a smooth, sensual base courtesy of vanilla-bean extract and sandalwood. A scent that works all day and all year long, we especially love it for long, hot summer nights.

Tom Ford Soleil Blanc (£174) is one incredibly sexy, summery fragrance. It smells like a hot summer day at the beach with a blend of sultry white florals, spicy pink pepper, cardamom, and sweet benzoin (a natural resin that smells a bit like vanilla). But what really rounds out the scent is the creamy base of coconut milk, amber, and tonka bean, which balances out the spice and makes this perfume smell absolutely irresistible.

Described by the brand as a "dry floral amber", the Floral Street Arizona Bloom Eau de Parfum (£60) was inspired by the flora and fauna of desert landscapes. To us, however, it smells like a warm summer breeze and sunscreen-slathered skin. Notes of coconut and fig leaves add that quintessential summer sweetness; cashmere and musk give the eau a sexy, second-skin effect; whilst jasmine petals provide a creamy quality that will make you want to keep spritzing again and again.

Maya Njie Tropica Eau de Parfum (£90) doesn't just smell like a lush, tropical paradise, thanks to a combination of warm, juicy notes like citrus fruit, pineapple, fig, and coconut and slightly metallic ones such as iris and ambergris. It actually makes you feel like you're in a tropical paradise; you'll feel calmer and more serene — the same way you do when you've gone on holiday to a remote, sunny island.

The Tory Burch Bel Azur (£61) bottle features a shade of blue so crisp and so calming, it immediately transports you to the ocean without even smelling it. The juice inside, however, is incredibly bright, vibrant, and beachy, with lots of citrusy and earthy notes that are softened by the addition of peony, patchouli, and cedarwood oil. The refreshing eau is the perfect perfume to spritz when it's hot and humid outside.

With notes of tuberose, orange leaves, pink peppercorns, and musk, the Diptyque Do Son Eau de Toilette (£75) smells like summer nights . . . specifically, the breezy ones in early June and late August.

A classic summer scent, with Bobbi Brown Beach Eau de Parfum (£52), the name says it all. Notes of jasmine and orange blossom are paired with marine and salty notes in a way that reminds us of the smell of sunscreen, but in a sophisticated and more sensual way.

OK, so Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Body Fragrance Mist (£32) isn't an eau de parfum, but in the summertime, sometimes a lighter, airier body spray is the way to go. Named after a popular holiday spot at the eastern end of Long Island, New York, Bond No. 9 Shelter Island Fragrance (£240) is described as a "marine oud" and brings to mind summer holidays spent in summer dresses in small seaside towns, which it does by combining notes like lemon, white lilies, and a seaweed accord.
