As states across the country moved through phased reopening plans [1], things seemed to change at the drop of a hat with new information and a surge in cases being brought to light. Case in point: California Gov. Gavin Newsom retracting the reopening of indoor operations, like hair salons and barbershops [2], after the state reported an increase of 109,910 new coronavirus cases in the past 14 days.

From the start, Gov. Newsom cautioned that if cases in the state began to rise again he would close nonessential businesses once more. While hair salons and barbershops are not closed statewide in California, they are closed in select counties that are on the County Monitoring List.

"Counties that have remained on the County Monitoring List for three consecutive days will be required to shut down," read the notice on the COVID.19.CA.Gov website [3]. Hair salons, in addition to personal care services like nail salons, spas, and tattoo parlors in these select counties, have been required to shutter their doors again.

In the following counties California hair salons have closed again for the immediate future: Colusa, Contra Costa, Fresno, Glenn, Imperial, Kings, Los Angeles, Madera, Marin, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Orange, Placer, Riverside, Sacramento, San Benito, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Joaquin, Santa Barbara, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tulare, Yolo, Yuba, and Ventura.

California is not the only state roll back reopening. New Mexico, Michigan, Florida, Colorado, Arizona, Louisiana, Nevada, and Texas have all reversed parts of their business reopenings as of July 14 to help fight the COVID-19 outbreak.
