Both Dean and Jeong agree that ash-toned hair created with the balayage technique is a top hair colour trend among Koreans. "After it fades out, it still looks nice," Dean said.

"In Korean, the word 'hwang-in' describes our naturally golden undertones," Jeong said. "To look fairer, many Koreans get the ash-toned hair colour to cancel out our natural warmth."
