Hally Hair Colour and Hair Dye Review With Photos

I Dyed My Hair Blue at Home, and Whoever Said Blondes Have More Fun Was Mistaken

Black, blond, red, and the accidental orange — I've dyed my hair a fair share of colours. It's naturally a chestnut-brown shade, and while I love the colour, I also like to change things up when I can. The idea of dyeing my hair at home used to strike me as daring, but after I tried an at-home temporary treatment earlier this year, I realised it wasn't particularly butterfly inducing. Plus, with Halloween on the horizon, I knew it was time to try something new. Hally Hair launched a limited-edition blue shade that I knew would not only complement my hair's base colour but also my Aquamarine-inspired costume, meaning it was practically a match made in (hair) heaven.

A few fast facts about the product: Hally's hair colour comes in five shades — blond, brown, pink, purple, and black. (The Blue Crush colour I used is currently out of stock, so I will just review the formula and process.) The dyes are vegan and feature ingredients like lavender, ginseng, and aloe, and are safe for all hair types. They're also free from sulphates and parabens. As for the product itself, it's easy to apply and easy to clean up — a big win for me considering I got some of it on my neck.

Check out the step-by-step process of how to use the hair dye and a review of the product, and see the results for yourself.

My Hair Before the Hally Hair Dye

I haven't gotten my hair highlighted in a couple of months, so it's a little darker than normal. My hair usually ranges between this colour and a lighter brown depending on the season, and while warmer tones aren't exactly groundbreaking for fall, I still love to keep my colour in tune with the seasons.

The Hally Hair Dye Lineup

The Hally hair set is super cute and comes with everything you need to treat yourself to an at-home salon experience. The dye and foam are the most important products, and they come ready to use. Just dump the dye into the foam bottle, give it a quick shake, and you're good to go. The set also comes with pretty purple eye gels, "stress buddy putty" that's fun to play with, hair clips, and latex-free gloves. What more could you need?

How I Sectioned My Hair When Applying Hally Hair Dye

I decided to only dye the underlayer of my hair since I wasn't sure how bright the colour would be. I sectioned my hair so the part I wanted to dye was in the front, and then pulled back the rest with a claw clip. I put on the gloves, used five pumps of foam, and worked it through my hair.

Once the colour was in my hair, I set a timer for 30 minutes and went on with my day. The dye dried pretty quickly and didn't get on my clothes. Some of it got on my neck, but I was able to easily wash it off with a washcloth and warm water.

My Hair After the Hally Hair Dye

After 30 minutes, I rinsed the dye out with warm water and shampoo, and blow-dried it as usual. The colour wasn't as bright as I thought it would be, which worked out in my favour since I didn't want anything too bold. If you do want a more noticeable colour, I would suggest leaving the solution on for about 10 more minutes. The underlayer of my hair is also pretty dark, so that might have contributed to why the blue wasn't as bright.

Overall, I liked the subtle results of the dye. The application process was super easy, so if I wanted to amp up my colour, I know I can do so in no time. The dye also lasts for four to six weeks, which is great for someone who wants to try something new. (Pro tip: to make my colour shinier, I used the DP Hue Clear Gloss to give it a glow.)

My Hair Before and After the Hally Hair Dye

The Hally hair dye is perfect for anyone who wants a quick and easy change. The colour lasts for more than a month and will give your look a whole new feel. While the blue dye wasn't as bright as I had expected, it was ideal for me since I didn't want a huge change. If you're someone who wants to completely switch up your hair colour, use more pumps of foam and leave it in your hair for longer.

Whether you want to complete your Halloween costume or add another hair colour to your rainbow repertoire, the Hally dye will do all that and more. You know what they say, blondes blues have more fun, right?
