Cosy sweaters, moody nail colours [1], and neutral lipsticks [2] aren't the only things taking over our virtual look books now that we're nearing the end of summer. As the superior season — yeah, we said it — there's nothing more refreshing than kicking off the start of autumn and accompanying cooler weather with an all-new hair colour that sounds just as delicious as the spiced candles we'll inevitably spend the next few months lighting. One hair colour in particular already has us ready to sprint to the nearest colourist to give our hair a much-needed autumnal upgrade: "honey chestnut."

This colour features a brown base that's been highlighted or lightened [3] using the balayage technique. "This has dimension without over lightening or 'doing the most,'" colourist Rex Jimieson [4] of Chicago's Maxine Salon [5] told POPSUGAR. He adds that, if your hair has never been coloured, you can achieve this highlighted look without the use of bleach. "It works on virgin hair that you want keep healthy but lighten with either foils or balayage. That means no old colour or rinses or glosses of any kind or you and your colourist will be disappointed."
