26/09/2019 - 12:35 AM

Grown-out bangs [1] are, in many ways, like younger siblings: they can prove pesky, and while you know you shouldn't fuss with them, you can't help but do so anyway. Despite how bothersome they might be, it's easy to fall in love with them as soon as you figure out the best way to make them cooperate.

Styling long bangs [2] doesn't have to require a ton of time or product, and we have the proof. We tapped hairstylist Devin Toth of SCK Salon [3] in New York City for easy and creative ways to do so. He's found different methods for lifting them out of your eyes without using hairspray and pushing them to the side with this year's trendiest accessories. He's even found a simple solution for fringes that are severely overgrown. Check out his tips, ahead.

How to Style Grown-Out Bangs: Add a Wave

Use a tiny iron to create waves to lift your lengthy bangs. "[Waves] give your bangs some major lift with a complete hair texture shift," Toth said. He recommends using the Hot Tools Black Gold Ribbon Curling Iron with a 5/8-inch diameter for this look.

How to Style Grown-Out Bangs: Turn Them Into Curtain Bangs

For thick, grown-out bangs, Toth suggests transforming them into curtain bangs. "Cut a subtle angle in the centre that becomes longer as you get to the outer edges by the eyes," he said. "Also, be sure to layer them a little in the centre and point cut them too."

How to Style Grown-Out Bangs: Lift Them With a Bump

Give your grown-out bangs a lift by adding a slight bump. "You can style them with a subtle bump using a curling wand or round brush," Toth said. "This will lift them out of your eyes for the day, but be sure not to overdo it."

How to Style Grown-Out Bangs: Push Them Back With a Headband

For bangs that are severely overgrown, Toth suggests using a headband. "The absolute easiest thing you could do is invest in a chic headband that you can use to secure your bangs away from your face," he said. "The Jennifer Behr headbands are the most luxurious and colourful ones on the market right now but if you want something a little more hardware and some whimsical edge, go for ones by Lelet New York."

How to Style Grown Out Bangs: Clip Them to the Side

Toth said that using a bobby pin or a bedazzled hair accessory is another solution, and one of the best options for those who don't want to use hairspray or other styling products.
