Inverted Hair Colour Ideas

The "Inverted" Hair Colour Trend Might Just Convince You to Get Highlights This Spring

Sometimes you just want to dye your hair a dramatic new colour without the actual commitment of dyeing your hair a dramatic new colour. In cases like these, it's normal to opt to add some low-maintenance highlights to your hair — though your Instagram feed might just convince you that "inverted" hair colour is a trend you'll want to try your hand at soon.

Inverted hair colour, also known as peekaboo highlights, is essentially a pop of colour that's hidden under the top layers of hair. The highlights can be applied in any colour — if you're a brunette, you can keep things simple by lightening a few pieces of hair to a soft blonde colour, or you can go wild with a light pink or electric blue. It's pretty similar to the hidden rainbow hair trend that took over our timelines back in 2016 after being popularised by Carla Rinaldi, a stylist at Not Another Salon in London.

Ahead, take a look at some of our favourite takes on the "inverted" hair colour.
