26 Editor-Approved Beauty Products Worth Buying This July

01/07/2022 - 08:35 PM

Summer solstice may be 21 June, but it really starts to feel like summer [2] when the long Fourth of July weekend finally arrives. Though we're spending more time outdoors basking in the sun, we still have plenty of time to test new beauty products, and July has already produced quite the haul.

In the hair, skin, makeup, body, and fragrance categories, brands have been turning out new and improved formulations, and we, for one, are impressed. From glowy sunscreen formulas that are actually enjoyable [3] to apply to citrus perfumes [4] that smell like summer in a bottle and hair products that finally smooth that veil of frizz we're so prone to getting, there's something for everyone.

Whether you're looking to do some shopping before you head out on holiday (hopefully to somewhere tropical) or you just like to keep tabs on what's new and hot in the beauty industry (we can relate), there are plenty of new beauty launches to stock up on. Keep scrolling to find some of our editors' favourite product picks of the month so far.

Best Colour Corrector

Huda Beauty #FAUXFILTER Color Corrector [5] (£26)

"For days when a simple swipe of concealer under my eyes just isn't enough, this Huda Beauty colour corrector in Pink Pomelo comes to the rescue. A light layer blended in underneath my concealer completely removes all purple hues from my skin." — Chloe Dunn, social content producer

Best Highlighter

Lottie London Cheeky Glow Wands [6] (£8)

"If you're looking for a seriously glowy complexion, you need to add these brand new liquid highlighters to your routine ASAP. The applicator is so easy to use. Just a few dots across the top of your cheekbones and voilà, you've got a next-level shimmer that lasts all day long." — CD

Best Lip Balm

Laneige Lip Glowy Balm in Grapefruit [7] (£18)

"Juicy, sweet, and glossy. Laneige has knocked it out the park with their new glowy balm. Hydrating with a sheer drop of colour, this product leaves my lips looking good enough to eat." — CD

Best Matte Liquid Lipstick

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Matte Lip Blur Liquid Lipstick [8] (£27)

"It's no secret that Charlotte Tilbury kills it in the lippie department, so I was elated to test out the new Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Matte Lip Blur Liquid Lipstick. Though I'm not usually big on matte formulas (I'm more of a gloss girl), it's so comfortable and hydrating, I completely forget about that when I'm wearing it. It leaves my lips looking plump and airbrushed with ultra-saturated colour. Pillow Talk Blur is my go-to." — Jessica Harrington, beauty editor

Best Balm and Blush Stick

Summer Fridays Blush Balm Lip + Cheek Stick [9] (£28)

"I can say with complete confidence that if Summer Fridays makes something, I'm going to love it. That holds true for the new shade of the Blush Balm Stick the brand just released, Dusty Rose. It's the perfect mauve, no-makeup flush that I want to wear every day. Plus, it leaves a nice dewy sheen to the skin without being sticky — no flyaway hairs are getting stuck today." — Aviel Kanter, director, branded content

Best Skin Tint

Keys Soulcare It's Like Skin 2-in-1 Concealer + Tint [10] (£28)

"The only downside to meeting Alicia Keys [11] a few years back — and yes, there can only be one — is that I've been haunted by her clear, glowing skin ever since. Even after a two-hour concert, she looked damn near perfect, without a makeup smudge in sight, and as I looked into my makeup bag, nothing I tried seemed to get me anywhere near her orbit. Luckily this month she launched a long-awaited solution with the Keys Soulcare It's Like Skin 2-in-1 Concealer + Tint, which combines what you get from a foundation, a serum, and a colour corrector in one. You don't need a lot, and it gives you a subtle, your-skin-but-better finish. I also love the jumbo-size applicator, which makes it easy to apply a dot onto each area of the face before blending it all in. I don't know how she did it, I'm just glad she did." — Kelsey Castañon, beauty director

Best Eyeshadow Stick

Sisley Paris Phyto-Eye Twist N°19 in Sunset [12] (£40)

"Something about eyeshadow sticks feels especially perfect for summer (but don't get me wrong: I wear them 365 days a year). They're easy, fast, and portable — something you can throw on to look effortlessly beautiful. The Sisley Paris Phyto-Eye Twists have been a longtime favourite of mine, but my obsession was renewed when I got my hands on the new shade, Sunset. This shimmery brown hue instantly elevates my makeup look, giving my eyes a bronzed finish with a single swipe." — JH

Best Gel Bronzer

Jones Road Gel Bronzer [13] (£32)

"This is innovation at its finest. It leans on the more liquid side of the gel formula, but it glides onto the skin with ease and blends like a dream. I feel like another shade or two could be added to the lineup, but I've been loving the shade Dark for a subtle everyday bronze to my skin." — AB

Best Tinted Lip Treatment

U Beauty The Plasma Lip Compound [14] (£60)

"U Beauty developed a cult following for its skin-perfecting and plumping Super Hydrator. Well, now the brand's doing the same for lips — and with the prettiest tints (the berry version called Cassis is my favourite). The effect is pillowy-soft lips and hydration and colour that last all day." — Dawn Davis, executive director, beauty

Best Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette

Anastasia Beverly Hills Cosmos Eyeshadow Palette [15] (£48)

"In the words of 'A Whole New World,' this palette is 'shining, shimmering, splended.' The sparkling colours make me feel so bright and beautiful in summer-festival lights. The turquoise shade is my absolute favourite." — Jada Gomez, executive editor

"I've been searching for the perfect sheer, summery, multicoloured shimmer eye shadows, and I've finally found them in the Cosmos palette. Quasar and Supernova have to be my favourites — I love how multidimensional they are without being overpoweringly pigmented. I'll be using everything on this palette all summer long, guaranteed." — AK

Best Cream Highlighter

Rose Inc Solar Radiance Hydrating Cream Highlighter [16] (£24)

"Rose Inc collaborated with swimsuit brand Hunza G for its Solar Collection, and everything from the beauty products to the swimwear options is stunning. The Solar Radiance Hydrating Cream Highlighter instantly became a summer favourite for me. The formula is creamy, soft, and hydrating, and it makes my skin glow in the sun. I like to put it on the high points of my face, and it just melts into the rest of my products beautifully." — JH

Best Lip Balm

Rose Inc Lip Treatment Hydrating Balm [17] (£20)

"What I love most about Rose Inc's Lip Treatment is how it feels on my lips — the formula is thick without being sticky, doesn't leave any residue on the edges of your mouth, and sinks into your lips in the most glorious way. I have come to have it in my pocket or bag pretty much 24/7 and slather it on constantly. My lips look better than ever." — AK

Best Eye Patches

Augustinus Bader The Eye Patches [18] (£17)

"Leading up to my wedding in June, I was using Augustinus Bader skin-care products almost exclusively. So when the brand announced the launch of the eye patches, I thought, Why not add these to the routine, too? They help lock in moisture, brighten the eye area, and reduce puffiness, and they feel so refreshing on the skin — basically everything I could hope for on the big day. I used them before getting ready and looked so refreshed." — Stephanie Nguyen, associate director, branded written content

Best Nighttime Serum

Tula 24-7 Ultra Hydration Triple-Hydra Complex Day & Night Serum [19] (£41)

"This serum is next-level moisturising. It feels like a really lush and inviting hydro-gel mask (I've actually used it in this way before and loved it), but whether you take it off or rub it in, you will feel an immediate difference in the softness and suppleness of your skin. Any skin type can use this, but if you're on the dryer side, you will adore this serum." — AB

Best Air-Dry Cream

Kevin.Murphy Killer.Twirls [20] (£26)

"Although I typically blow-dry my hair straight, when I let it air dry, it's wavy, frizzy, and unruly. I've been using the Kevin.Murphy Killer.Twirls cream to keep everything in check this summer, and it's been working wonders. Not only does it keep my hair hydrated, but it helps enhance my natural wave without the dreaded 'crunchy' feeling. I just apply a small amount to damp hair, scrunch, and I'm ready to go." — RR

Best Reparative Hair Mask

Guerlain Abeille Royale Double R Radiance & Repair Mask [21] (£74)

"I'm a big fan of the Abeille Royale skin-care collection from Guerlain, so I had high hopes for this hair product. Like the skin care, the mask has two ingredients that sit in separate chambers in the bottle and get mixed together in your hands. And like the skin care, this mask leaves my hair incredibly soft, supple, and silky. I've been using it as an overnight mask, and I invariably wake up with more luscious waves than I went to bed with." — AK

Best Detangling Leave-In Conditioner

Fable & Mane MahaMane Detangling Leave-in Conditioner [22] (£28)

"I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't been using a leave-in for . . . a long time. And my hair has suffered. This leave-in conditioner has only been in my life for a month-ish, but it's made a huge difference in how my hair dries — both with and without hot tools. I'm going to take a wild guess and thank the product's hero ingredient, aloe vera, for that. Bonus: it protects hair from heat damage, too." — SS

"I recently moved to Los Angeles, and the hotter weather and harder water has been especially tough on my hair. I've been using this leave-in conditioner from Fable & Mane to keep everything as hydrated and silky as possible. It helps fight the frizz I always seem to be dealing with, and it's perfect for spritzing before styling — it doesn't weigh my hair down or leave it feeling greasy." — RR

Best Refillable Candle

Carriere Freres Geranium Candle [23] (£60)

"Yes, this candle smells amazing (heady floral with bursts of citrus). And yes, the packaging (made in collaboration with the Paris National Museum of Natural History) is gorgeous. But what makes this candle stand out from the pack is that it's refillable. Once you finish your original candle, all you need to do is remove the excess wax and wick, then pop in the refill, and voila — you have a second candle without having to toss the glass. Not to mention the refill container is 100 percent compostable, and the packageing of the original candle is made without plastic or nonessential materials. Love to see it." —AK

Best Lip Gloss

Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Lip Gloss [24] (£20)

"I already fell in love with the Anastasia Beverly Hills glosses when they reformulated, but this new colour range may have just solidified the line as my favourite glosses of the year so far. The new colours include everything from a baby pink called Cotton Candy to a shimmering beige that adds just a hint of colour to the lip. I'm just about ready to throw away any other lip gloss that I own. It's that good." — AB

Best Cream Blush

Merit Flush Balm [25] (£32)

"Merit came out with new colours of the blush balm, and I am ridiculously obsessed with the shade Fox. It's a delicious reddish brown that warms up my complexion ever so slightly to give that 'is she sunburnt or is it blush?' look that I simply can't get enough of." — AB

Best Setting Powder

One/Size by Patrick Starrr Ultimate Blurring Setting Powder [26] (£44)

"I firmly believe that Patrick Starrr can do no wrong, and he has proved me right once more with the release of the iconic blurring setting powder in the shade Sweet Honey. It is a brightening yellow shade that makes my undereyes look flawless, thanks to the blurring attributes from the original version that have already been perfected. This powder has easily flown into my top two favourites of all time." — AB

Best Traditional Lipstick

Kosas Weightless Lip Colour [27] (£24)

"Kosas is an incredible brand, but I don't think people give its lip colours enough credit. Fresh off the heels of new lip-oil shades, the brand relaunched its lipsticks, and they couldn't have come at a better time. I have not stopped wearing the shade Sugar High, but there is a nude in the line for everyone. Seriously, the founder of the line, Sheena Zadeh-Daly, worked with an artist to find the perfect 'flesh' undertones that would work for every skin tone — and it shows." — AB

Best Styling Cream

John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Touch-Up Crème [28] (£7)

"I'm very picky when it comes to hair products. I have fine, wavy hair, so styling creams can quickly become overpowering and heavy, but that wasn't my experience with the John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Touch-Up Crème. I've used it a myriad of ways — in a slicked-back bun, to enhance my waves post-shower, for taming frizz on second and third-day hair — and it's impressed me every time." — JH

Best Curl Treatment

Redken All Soft Mega Curls Hydramelt Leave-In Treatment [29] (£25)

"This treatment is hydration in a bottle. I've been noticing my hair feeling a little dry after blow-drying it lately, so I decided to use this as a leave-in before my next wash day. The difference in the feel of my hair was night and day, and there was no flakiness or buildup in my brush attachment for my blow dryer. Immediate holy grail hair product." — AB

Best Hydrating Body Mist

L'Occitane Almond Delightful Body Mist [30] (£32)

"I am obsessed with the smell of almond essence, so of course, when L'Occitane came out with the Almond Delightful Body Mist, I had to have it — and it smells divine. The mist also features almond oil, which gives the liquid moisturising properties." — AB

Best Fresh Perfume

Phlur Solar Power Eau de Parfum [31] (£82)

"The Phlur Solar Power Eau de Parfum is like an escape to a mountain in the tropics. It's a fresh, fruity scent that makes me feel (and smell) clean in this muggy, hot weather. But it's still light and airy enough to not be overpowering." — AB
