L'Oréal Group is officially banning all makeup brushes made with animal hair [0]. On 14 Jan. 2021, the People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) announced that the cosmetics giant is banning all of its makeup brushes made from animal hair in a bid to make the brushes from all of the group's brands entirely cruelty-free. The announcement comes after PETA and 80,000 members of the public urged L'Oréal-owned male grooming brand, Baxter of California, to ban its well-known shaving brushes made from badger.

"Every badger or goat hair brush represents a sensitive animal who endured a violent death," said PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. The move also comes after a PETA investigation found that badger and goat hair used for brushes caused significant distress and harm to the animals.
