Margot Robbie's Tattoos and Meanings

The Meaning Behind Margot Robbie's 4 Tiny Tattoos

  • Margot Robbie has four known tattoos so far.
  • Three of her tattoos are situated on her foot, while one sits neatly on her wrist.
  • The actor also has given her friends and coworkers dozens of tattoos over the years.

Ever since her noteworthy turn in the 2013 Martin Scorsese-helmed "Wolf of the Wall Street," which firmly established her presence on the Hollywood map, Margot Robbie has earned critical acclaim through her nuanced performances in a wide range of blockbuster projects, including "Bombshell" and "I, Tonya." Fresh off her latest hit release, "Babylon," the two-time Academy Award-nominee is all set to lead Greta-Gerwig's "Barbie," one of the hotly anticipated films of 2023. And when the Australian star isn't busy on set, she's likely to be spotted with her tattoo gun, giving permanent ink to her loved ones.

While Robbie has four tattoos herself, she has honed in the art of tattooing other people over the years. (As of 2017, her tattoo count impressively stood at nearly 100 pieces of ink, one of which was her own.) However, she has since confessed that she's ready to "hang up her tattoo gun" following one big mishap.

"One of my good friends was getting married in Australia and has the hens – the bachelorette, you would say — the night before. Of course, there's a lot of drinking, and then we're like, 'Oh, we'll get matching tattoos!' 'cause that's a great idea. And, I was tattooing my friend on her back. Another friend had drawn it in pen. And then I tattooed it, and then when I showed her afterwards, she was like, 'Oh. I didn't know that's what I was getting,'" she said in an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,". "The next day at the wedding, when she walked down the aisle, as one of the maids of honour, in a backless dress, and this, like, red, raw, scabbing tattoo. And her mum was filthy with me. She was – like, rassed at me at the wedding. She was so angry, and I thought, 'I really shouldn't do this anymore.'"

As for her own designers, Robbie also has four tiny tattoos, one of which she gave herself while another was drawn on her by the actor and model Cara Delevingne. Ahead, check out all four tattoos that Robbie has gotten over the years and their significance to the actor.

1. Margot Robbie’s Tiny Cross Tattoo

The "Bombshell" actor has a small cross design on the inside of her left wrist. She has not shared the meaning behind the ink, although it typically symbolises one's faith.

2. Margot Robbie’s “Skwad” Tattoo

While filming her 2016 DC movie "Suicide Squad," Robbie gave dozens of crew and fellow cast members tattoos using her personal tattoo gun, which she admittedly bought off of eBay. She got the intentionally misspelled word "Skwad" inked on her left foot, which she shared she gave herself.

"On the first 'Suicide Squad,' we did 'Skwad' tattoos, and it became a bit of a thing," she told host Jimmy Fallon during her Feb 2020 appearance on "The Tonight Show." "Everyone got it. People, like, honestly, in lighting setups would just pop into the trailer and get one. Mine's on my foot right here. I did my own one."

Robbie and her co-star Cara Delevingne, who played Enchantress in the DC movie, got matching ink on the bottom of their toes, which the pair refers to as the 'Toemojis.' The "Amsterdam" actor got a smiling emoji with its tongue sticking out and crosses for eyes tattooed on the bottom of her left foot. The "Paper Towns" actor got the same design on her middle right toe while adding a bunch of smiling emojis on the bottom of the rest four toes on her right foot.

Robbie and Delevingne drew each other's tattoos, as the latter disclosed during her 2017 guest appearance on "Hot Ones." "That's me tattooing Margot's toes with toemojis, which is what we made up for emojis on our toes. We both had them on our feet," she shared while describing the image from the set. So it was basically like an emoji face. It was just like a smiley face. I had five of them; she had one or two, I think."

A tiny anchor design is placed on Robbie's left ankle, right above her heel. Though Robbie hasn't shared the inspiration behind the ink, an anchor often signifies hope, security, and resolution.
