The Undoing's Matilda De Angelis Shares Acne Selfie

The Undoing Actor Matilda De Angelis Shared an Acne Selfie With an Inspiring Message

Matilda De Angelis's performance might've been brief in the The Undoing, but it was nothing short of incredible. Last month, we were riveted watching the dramatic story unfold on our TV screens, a story that centred around the 25-year-old Italian actor who played Elena Alves, a mysterious and breathtakingly beautiful character. Offscreen, De Angelis is just as beautiful and happens to be incredibly inspiring, too.

On Dec. 16, the actor shared a selfie with her 300,000 Instagram followers showing her bare skin and acne breakout. Along with the photo, De Angelis wrote a lengthy caption written in Italian, which she then translated into English:

"There are things that cannot be controlled and this year taught us well. There are changes that we must accept in our life and with them, the perception of ourselves and the world around us. Paradoxical things happen in life don't they? Well, for me, being an actress and working with a face eaten by acne is one of them. Every day I have to wake up and present myself first in front of the mirror and then in front of the camera with all the emotional load that already entails and being 'splendid', 'in part' and concentrated together with all my fears and insecurities literally on the skin. There are much bigger problems in life, I am aware of that, but I wanted to share this little truth perhaps to feel stronger, perhaps to accept myself better. Our fears can paralyze us or they can become a great force, it is up to us to choose the path. And to practice so much gratitude for all the good things that happen to us and maybe even for the bad ones."

De Angelis isn't the first celebrity to share a selfie showcasing their acne in attempts to normalise breakouts, which truly do happen to everyone. For years, the conversation around acne has been quite negative, talking about it as something you're afflicted with that is embarrassing and needs to be covered. People with large followers on social being honest about their skin is just one way we can change that narrative.
