Usually the start of autumn inspires people to try out darker hair colours to accompany the season's crisp, cool weather, but this year's autumn hair-colour trends are here to provide us with some lighter fare. The "mocha melt" hair colour, for example, will be one of the season's biggest trends, and it's perfect for anyone hoping to embrace the moodiness of fall while still adding some summer flair.

"This is beautiful on brunettes that want a blend of blond tones," Karissa Schaudt, a colourist at Chicago's Maxine Salon told POPSUGAR. According to Schaudt, if you have a naturally brown base colour but want to try out this shade, ask your colourist for a full balayage during your next hair appointment. "This style should keep a rooted look, while lightening the mid-ends," she said. "This melt is lifted two to three levels lighter than the natural [colour], so it's not overly lightened and perfect for fall."

Dark roots and highlights are always appropriate for autumn, and we have the evidence to prove it. Read ahead to check out a few stunning examples of the "mocha melt" hair colour.
