With nothing but boxed hair-dye to hold people over for months, the first appointment back in the salon chair meant monumental decisions. "[The] most popular hair colours [have been] blond or rooted blond," Anthony Holguin, hairstylist at LA-based hair salon Nine Zero One, told POPSUGAR. "One thing I think everyone wants to feel right now is brighter in this dark time, so a lot of people want to be blonder."

For those who resisted the urge to trim their hair at home — and even those who didn't — removing dead ends and grown-out length has been top of mind. "The most popular thing clients have been wanting to do is a "big chop," said Holguin, "meaning cutting more than usual or going for a short haircut. Everyone's hair just got so long and people want a change."

For those with long hair, this looks like a short or mid-length haircut. For short hair, this looks like a textured lob or shag hairstyle.

Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton said that this extra time at home has resulted in more out-of-the-box requests. "I think coming out of this, people want to experiment and do something different," he said. "People want to try something they haven't done before, especially blonds who can easily experiment with blues and pinks. Straight out of quarantine, we coloured Kim Kardashian cherry red."
