Many Nail Salons Are Closed Due to the Coronavirus, as Are Other Service-Oriented Businesses

18/03/2020 - 03:55 PM

The coronavirus is causing businesses to temporarily close their storefronts [1] all over the country. For some companies, like Sephora and Ulta [2], this means putting a focus on online shopping in the interim. But for other service-oriented businesses, like hair and nail salons [3], this means closing doors until further notice.

While you may be able to find a local salon that's still operating, it's wise to avoid it. Much like your Spring haircut [4] will have to be postponed until the pandemic passes, so will your fresh manicure, pedicure, or gel removal. Instead, it's encouraged to stay indoors to help limit your chances of coming into contact with the virus.

Due to the recent guidelines put in place [5] by the government, gatherings of more than 10 people are strongly discouraged, and in many areas, nonessential businesses are being told to close for two-to-three weeks to help flatten the curve of COVID-19.

So if you're stuck at home with a grown-out gel manicure [6] or chipped pedicure, you may want to take this time to focus on self-care and indulge in some DIY spa time [7]. Try giving yourself a salon-quality pedicure from the comfort of your own bedroom or removing your gel manicure [8] with a tried-and-true at-home hack. It's only a matter of time before you can get back to the salon, and right now, it's better to be safe (and with a three-week-old manicure) than sorry.
