I'm a '90s Baby With Barely There Brows, but This Product Brought Them Back to Life

When I was in the seventh grade, I got my eyebrows waxed for the very first time. Like many of us who began the facial waxing process in the 1990s or 2000s, I have regretted it for quite some time. When it came to brows back then, thin was in, and I went all in on the trend.

I'll be honest: my brows have come a long way from the days of their "barely there" existence, but not without years and years of patience. When I was recently asked what I wanted for my birthday, I jokingly said I wanted my original eyebrows from 2001 back. All joking aside, I do want them back. They were bushy and unruly, but they were mine and I took them for granted.

In an effort to make my impending birthday wish come true, I decided to look into ways to speed up the growth process. I figured there was no better time to try growing out my brows, since I've been working from home for the last month with just my boyfriend, who can't tell the difference between a perfectly sculpted brow and one that's been neglected.

I started out using castor oil, but after a few weeks with no visible growth, I decided to step up my game and try the Skin Research Laboratories Neubrow Brow Enhancing Serum ($100). The product is made with keratin, biotin, and a mix of peptides that claim to help. Since I had previously used the company's Neulash serum for my lashes with great results, I was excited to give the brow version a try.

The directions state to use the product twice daily, morning and at night, but I didn't know that until after the fact, so I only applied the serum once a day, at nighttime, after completing my skin-care routine. The first time I used it, I experienced slight redness around my brows, which only lasted for a day. I did not experience any irritation or flaking.

It took a few weeks before I began to see an improvement, but with consistent use (even just once a day), my eyebrows started to resemble something straight outta 2001, before my first waxing experience. My sparse brows were fuller and darker, and hair was growing in where I had been without any growth for years. The top photo above shows the results after one week of use. A few hairs popped up, but it wasn't too noticeable. The middle photo is after three weeks of use. The bottom photo shows my brows after a full month of use — hello, eyebrow hair. The real kicker, though, was that my self-isolation partner (you know, the clueless boyfriend who notices nothing about brows) actually commented on my brow growth.

I will say that this product wasn't an overnight fix. It took time before I started to see the difference, but I knew that going in. Still, I'm happy with my results so far, and I plan on using this serum until my eyebrows rival those of Cara Delevingne.
