One nail artist — who happens to be a pro in the deep-arched french tip — Jay Deau, gave POPSUGAR the lowdown on what the trend is and how to recreate it. "The deep-arched french tip is when the sides are painted longer and deeper than the classic design. It gives the illusion that the natural nail has a slimmer form as it's more narrow," said Deau. This is actually her preferred french manicure design, as it takes the visually appealing aspects of the classic and combines it with the simple and chic outline nail-art trend. "Clients love them, as it's a very wearable trend and gives an extra touch to their nails."
What's the key to the perfect deep-arched french manicure? "Symmetry", Deau said, emphasising how important it is that the sides of the tips are accurately angled toward the nail bed (significantly more than usual). This gives the nails an elongated look and feel, which is key to the overall design. Deau noted that you should explain this to your nail technician but also bring inspiration photos to show them exactly the result you're looking for.
Possibly the best part about this design is that it's perfect for short nails, too. Despite being a classic French tip mani — which is typically done on naturally longer nails (or artificial nails and extensions) — it actually works perfectly for short nails.
