Truthfully, I haven't met a Rare Beauty product that I haven't liked. The foundation? Obsessed. The Stay Vulnerable Melting Cream Blush? Use it every day. So when I got word that Selena Gomez was launching a mascara, I had a sneaky suspicion that I'd love that, too — and I was right.

The Perfect Strokes Universal Volumizing Mascara is said to be a universal mascara to work on all eyelashes — short, straight, long, curly, light, you name it. As someone with fairly long but stick-straight eyelashes, I typically like my mascaras to lift, curl, and volumise (tall order, I know).

The mascara has a semistraight, fluffy brush with tightly packed, intertwined bristles that vary in length. This helps grab individual lashes and ensure each one is coated in mascara. The formula itself is super black and buildable, so you can really punch up the volume. As soon as I took the wand out of the tube, I got excited because the brush style is one of my favourites.

I skipped my lash curler so I could test the formula on its own and applied the mascara from root to tips using a wiggling motion to really get the pigment onto my lashes. Unlike some oversize brushes that get product everywhere, the thinner brush made it easy to apply without making a mess on my eyelids. The formula makes an impact with just one swipe — my lashes immediately looked thicker and longer — and after two or three coats, that effect only got greater. The thin formula of the mascara allowed me to apply multiple coats without it clumping my lashes together, which is a must for me.

As for the long-wearing claims, I am happy to report the Perfect Strokes Universal Volumizing Mascara lives up to every word. Having tested this mascara for the last week during a very hot New York City summer and even wearing it during my friend's birthday brunch by the water where humidity felt like it was at 100 percent, it didn't smudge or run onto my cheeks.

If you're someone who likes super-dramatic-looking lashes, I'd recommend you curl them with an eyelash curler before applying Rare Beauty's mascara. As for me, I'll be using this tube to the last drop.
