The 12 Years a Slave trailer is so powerful that it can only mean one thing: award-season movies are coming. In this drama, set in the Deep South prior to the Civil War, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is a free man living in New York, until he's kidnapped and sold into slavery. In his 12 years as a slave, he's abused by his violence- and Bible-loving slave owner Edwin Epps (Michael Fassbender) — not to mention the injustices committed by characters played by Paul Giamatti and Paul Dano. Solomon seems to retain his hope, and blessedly, he does encounter sympathy, like from Bass, played by Brad Pitt.
The brief clips of the performances are enough to make me think this movie is going to be incredible. The cast is stacked with talent. There's the villainous Fassbender, as well as Oscar nominees Giamatti, Pitt, and Alfre Woodard and great actors like Dano and Benedict Cumberbatch. Is it too soon to be making award predictions? Either way, see if you can watch the 12 Years a Slave trailer and not feel that way. The movie comes out Oct. 18, and you can watch the trailer after the jump.
