Avril Lavigne Makes First Red Carpet Appearance in 2 Years After "Hibernating and Healing"

24/04/2018 - 10:11 PM

Avril Lavigne [1] stepped out on the red carpet for the first time in two years on Friday to attend the 25th annual Race to Erase MS [2] gala in Beverly Hills. The singer-songwriter voiced her support for the organisation, revealing to E! News that she's been on the board for Race to Erase MS for years. "To be here and to also have gone through my own personal struggle with Lyme disease [3], having my own foundation [the Avril Lavigne foundation [4]], it's just even more meaningful," she told the network. "I've been tucked away and hibernating and healing."

Avril has had a tough few years after she famously announced her Lyme disease diagnosis [5] back in 2015. It's been almost two years to the day since she reunited with ex-husband Chad Kroeger [6] at the Juno Awards in Canada, marking the last time the singer made a red carpet appearance. We're glad to see her looking happy and healthy and — wait for it — ready to release new music! The "Complicated" singer confirmed she is indeed almost done with a new album that will be released this year.

"It's a really powerful record," she told E! News. "I've gone through a lot of personal stuff in the past two years and so I've really drawn from that. I mean, I always do but this album is so different. It's more of a vocal record and just like, hearing the lyrics and really hearing the emotion in the vocal. It's very piano-driven, too." Other gala attendees included Aaron Paul and Lauren Parsekian [7], Victoria Justice, Anne Heche, La Toya Jackson, Rumer Willis, and This Is Us's Hannah Zeile, so Avril was in good company. Ahead, see Avril flashing a smile and wearing a beautiful black gown in more photos of her big night out.
