Beyoncé and Jay-Z Flo-Jo and Tommie Smith Halloween Costumes

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Make a Statement With Their Iconic Halloween Costumes

You thought Beyoncé would wear one Halloween costume this year and be done with it? Oh, ye of little faith! After making us all bow down (b*tches) over the weekend with her tribute to Toni Braxton, on Oct. 31, Beyoncé shared her second costume of the year, and it's just as iconic as the first. This time around, Bey played homage to legendary athlete Florence Griffith Joyner, aka Flo-Jo. 30 years ago, in 1988, Florence set two new world records in the 100 and 200 metre races, making her the fastest woman in the world. Though she passed away 10 years later, she remains the unbeaten champion.

Beyoncé's costume took us back to 1988 Olympic trials, where Flo-Jo set her first record, ahead of 3 Olympic gold medal wins. Bey sported one of the athlete's trademark "one legger" bodysuits, and as ever, no detail was missed, from the graphic print briefs to the exact wording on her race number. Jay-Z, meanwhile, stood alongside Bey dressed in tribute to Tommie Smith, who won the bronze medal in the 200 metres at the 1968 Olympics. Alongside fellow athlete John Carlos, he performed a salute from the podium to protest racism and injustice against African-Americans in the USA, in what is considered to be a hugely symbolic moment for the Black Power movement.
