One Million Years Later, Marvel Has Finally Given Black Widow a Solo Film

17/01/2018 - 09:45 AM

It's official: Black Widow is getting her own standalone Marvel film [1], according to The Wrap. This is game-changing news, because a majority of the heroes in the core Avengers group — specifically Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America — have multiple standalone films. The announcement comes after a couple of additional inclusive projects from the comics juggernaut: the female-led Captain Marvel [2], starring Brie Larson, hits cinemas in 2019, while the groundbreaking Black Panther [3] will deliver with an impressive black ensemble cast in Feb. 2018.

When it comes to Black Widow, there's an extra piece of exciting news: a woman will take the lead on writing the screenplay. Jac Schaeffer, best known for writing 2009's TiMER, will pen the script. No further details about the project are currently available, but given the fact that Wonder Woman really dominated in 2017 [4] (and Scarlett Johansson [5] has been playing the character since 2010), it's high time Marvel gave us the superhero film we've been begging for. Sure, Captain Marvel is great, but we've wanted to see more of Natalia Alianovna "Natasha" Romanoff for quite some time.
