Chrissy Teigen's Heartfelt Note Emphasises Why Crazy Rich Asians Is So Damn Significant
Chrissy Teigen has perfectly nailed the reasons everyone should go see Crazy Rich Asians. After watching the film with husband John Legend and 2-year-old daughter Luna, Chrissy wrote a heartfelt review of the movie on her Instagram account and emphasised exactly why it's so damn important. In the photo gallery's caption, Chrissy shared that she expected to enjoy the film, but she was surprised by how it emotionally impacted her.
"The feeling I got during the credits, watching John dance with my little black-Asian mashup baby bear Luna tunes, was a feeling I haven't had at the end of any other movies," Chrissy wrote. "Luna, aside from being blown away by the general movie-going experience (yep, she's 13 now, time flies) looked up at @constancewu's mother and yelled 'yāy!' ("Grandma" in Thai) because she saw someone who looked like her yāy. Someone beautiful and aspirational."
The movie, which has already dominated the US box office again in its second weekend, has been praised for its representation and painstaking attention to detail. Chrissy explained that the film's moments, both quiet and over the top, were reminiscent of her own "confusing Asian-American upbringing," and reminded her of what she had been missing.
"You never know how much you miss being represented on screen until you actually see what it's like to be represented," she said. "And represented by all different types of characters with all different types of personalities, just like any other great movie."
