Blame It on the Alcohol: The Queen Reportedly Called Camilla a "Wicked Woman" For Charles Affair

A new unauthorised biography, Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles, by British journalist Tom Bower is being released on March 22, and boy, is it filled with some explosive claims. Not only does the author allege that Prince Charles once felt threatened by Prince William and Kate Middleton's rising popularity, but in a new excerpt, Tom wrote that Queen Elizabeth II once referred to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, as "that wicked woman."

According to Tom, this all happened when Charles — who had an affair with Camilla while he was still married to Princess Diana — confronted his mother about finally welcoming Camilla into the royal family in the Summer following Diana's tragic death. The queen already knew Camilla from when she was married to her ex-husband Andrew Parker Bowles, and the two actually got along. Andrew was the Queen Mother's godson and the pair frequently visited Buckingham Palace when they were together (they divorced in 1995), but now things were different.

The queen was reportedly already "several martinis" in when Charles came to her with his request. She allegedly told him that she "would not condone his adultery, nor forgive Camilla for not leaving Charles alone to allow his marriage to recover." Elizabeth also told him that she wanted nothing to do her and then Charles "tearfully" called Camilla to report back.

While we're still not sure if Tom's claims are actually true, it seems Elizabeth has had a change of heart over the years. Not only did she eventually encourage Camilla and Charles to go public with their romance, but the queen has included Camilla in several of her celebrations and she gave Charles and Camilla permission to marry in 2005. As if that wasn't proof enough, the queen even gave a speech at the reception, saying, "My son is home and dry with the woman he loves." The British royal family have yet to address Tom's claims.
