Eminem Celebrates 10 Years of Sobriety April 2018

Eminem Celebrates 10 Years of Sobriety With a Heartfelt Instagram Post

Eminem has accomplished yet another huge feat. On Saturday, the Recovery rapper revealed he is officially 10 years sober. "Celebrated my 10 years yesterday," the 45-year-old wrote on Instagram along with a photo of a coin given to Alcoholics Anonymous members once they've reached a milestone in their journey to sobriety. The coin also featured the Roman numeral X — for 10 years — in the middle, along with the words "service," "unity," and "recovery."

In 2015, Eminem opened up about his battle with substance abuse in an interview with Men's Journal. "In 2007, I overdosed on pills, and I went into the hospital," he shared. "I was close to 230 pounds. I'm not sure how I got so big, but I have ideas. The coating on the Vicodin and the Valium I'd been taking for years leaves a hole in your stomach, so to avoid a stomachache, I was constantly eating — and eating badly."

For the 8 Mile actor, exercise was the main thing that saved his life. "When I got out of rehab, I needed to lose weight, but I also needed to figure out a way to function sober," he told the outlet. "Unless I was blitzed out of my mind, I had trouble sleeping. So I started running. It gave me a natural endorphin high, but it also helped me sleep, so it was perfect. It's easy to understand how people replace addiction with exercise. One addiction for another but one that's good for them."

Ten years later and it appears the "Walk on Water" rapper remains on the steady path to sobriety. Congrats on your major accomplishment, Eminem!
