Princess Giselle Goes Wicked in the Full Trailer For "Disenchanted"

02/11/2022 - 09:00 AM

The "Enchanted [1]" sequel, "Disenchanted," is almost here. The original film — which starred Amy Adams [2] as the lost Princess Giselle; Patrick Dempsey [3] as her love interest, Robert; James Marsden [4] as Prince Edward; and Idina Menzel [5] as Nancy — was released in 2007, and sequel rumours followed it for years. Disney finally greenlit the sequel movie at the end of 2020.

Disney released the new trailer on 1 Nov., and this time around it seems like the evil stepmother in this fairy tale is actually Giselle. The "Disenchanted" cast also presented the first trailer for the movie at D23 Expo on 9 Sept. Adams said that the movie finds Giselle struggling within her role as a wife and mother to her teenage stepdaughter and an infant. The family moves out to the suburbs but has a hard time with the adjustment. Meanwhile, Robert and Nancy, living in Andalasia, are still completely happy. Maya Rudolph, who plays the villainous Malvina Monroe, said, "It was really fun" to go head-to-head with Adams.

"Disenchanted" finally started filming in 2021 and did reshoots in Buckinghamshire earlier this year. The first photos from the set showed Giselle and Robert in a fairy-tale wonderland in gorgeous, old-fashioned costumes. For her part, Adams told Jimmy Fallon [6] back in the autumn of 2021 that the sequel has been a ton of work, with more singing and dancing than the original.

She explained, "The last time I really danced as much as I'm required to dance in this, I was in my 20s, and now I'm not in my 20s. It feels different in your 40s. In my heart, I look like I'm in my 20s when I'm dancing, and then I would watch playback and be like, 'Whoa, that's not the same.'"

Here's everything we know about the "Enchanted" sequel, including its cast, plot, release date, first-look photos, trailer and more.

"Disenchanted" Trailer

Disney released the full trailer for "Disenchanted" on 1 Nov., and it includes some major clues as to the film's plot. Giselle seems to slip easily into an "evil stepmother" type of role. Plus, this time Nancy, after years of living in Andalasia, gets to sing, too.

"Disenchanted" Trailer

Disney released the teaser trailer for "Disenchanted" on 9 Sept.

"Disenchanted" Plot

Disney's plot for the new movie is this: "Fifteen years after the events of the first film, Giselle moves with Robert and Morgan to the suburb of Monroeville, where she's faced with juggling the challenges that come with a new home and discovering what happily ever after truly means to her and her new family."

On 1 Nov., Disney released another plot summary for the movie that says, "It has been more than 10 years since Giselle and Robert wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn't the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe, who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn't been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family's future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family."

"Disenchanted" Cast

Adams, Dempsey, Menzel, and Marsden are all returning for the new film. Joining them are Yvette Nicole Brown as Rosaleen, Jayma Mays as Ruby, Maya Rudolph as Malvina Monroe, Oscar Nunez as Edgar, Kolton Stewart as Malvina's son, and Gabriella Baldacchino as Morgan, Robert's daughter from the first film.
