Gillian Anderson Asks the Nation to Give a F*ck About Mental Illness in Young People
Gillian Anderson, Mel C, and Nicola Adams are pledging their support for the We Swear campaign from mental health charity MQ because, according to the campaign, "It's time Brits gave a f*ck about mental illness." With four in 10 in the UK feeling that mental illnesses are "an inevitable part of life" and 84 percent of Brits saying there is enough done to tackle these issues, MQ has stepped up with a celebrity following to help combat this through dedicated research.
However, MQ's campaign lacks the funding to progress in understanding and treating this illness. With only £8 being spent on research per person affected by mental health in the UK, this is 22 times less than a person with cancer and 14 times less than is spent on dementia patients. The charity proposes that with proper funding, they will bring together leading scientists to better understand the illness, identify those at risk, and ensure that effective interventions are developed and implemented.
