It's a sad day in the meme world — Grumpy Cat has died at the age of seven.
The celebrity sensation, who's real name is actually Tardar Sauce, died on May 14, according to a post on Instagram. Grumpy's family, Tabatha, Bryan, and Chyrstal, posted the caption, "Some days are grumpier than others..." along with a heartbreaking message stating that she passed away from complications from a recent infection and that "despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family," the medical issues "became too tough for her to overcome."
The message continued: "Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world — even when times were tough." Grumpy cat has a following on Instagram of 2.4 million and is estimated to be worth $100 million and was a true meme sensation around the globe.
