• How to act: Cersei always has the best, most cutting comebacks, so make sure you're on your game on Oct. 31. Also, have a glass of red wine to swirl around threateningly at any given moment.

Slipknot From Suicide Squad

• What to wear: Other than plaiting your hair, you should be dressed in black from head to toe and have some hiking gear tied around your chest.
• How to act: March to the beat of your own drum and don't take orders from anyone.

Rey From Star Wars: The Force Awakens

• What to wear: A dirty beige tunic with a leather belt at the waist and brown boots. Carry a staff and bring along a BB-8.
• How to act: Brave and confident, but like kind of a loner.

Ezekiel From The Walking Dead

• What to wear: Ezekiel hasn't made his big arrival on the show yet, but if you're a fan of the comic books or you watched the season seven trailer, you know that not only is he nearly here, but his look is also pretty iconic. If you want to get a head start on the character, get yourself: grey hair, a long coat, fingerless leather gloves, a shirt with a fun print on it, a wooden staff, combat boots, and a tiger stuffed animal (in honour of Ezekiel's pet tiger, Shiva).
• How to act: Project an eccentric and flamboyant attitude. Try and force your friends and loved ones to refer to you as "King."

• For Karen: A blonde wig, a printed shirt or jumper, and a pencil skirt.

• What to wear: Fancy dress shops have plenty of different versions of cop costumes, so if you search for one in a khaki colour, like a state trooper, your Hopper costume will be complete. Grow out or stipple on some five o'clock shadow if possible, and maybe carry around an empty beer can for good measure.
• How to act: Picture your most hungover, irritable moment, and then try to keep that attitude going all night.

Amy, Kiki, and Carla From Bad Moms

• What to wear: Break out the drab grey pantsuit you only wear to interviews to get Amy's look, and improvise with the clothes you and your friends have to achieve Kiki's and Carla's very different (and very hilarious) styles.
• How to act: Fed up and ready to let loose.

• What to wear: First of all, you need to find a way to get that godly mane and beard. If you haven't grown one yourself, it's time to get hunting. Pair the look with lots of silver armour, and don't forget your trident.
• How to act: Angry and brooding. Aquaman is not here to have fun or mess around. Don't be afraid to enter nearby pools, bathtubs, and other miscellaneous bodies of water.

Dory, Marlin, and Hank in Finding Dory

• What to wear: Hopefully you're into face paint, because Dory, Marlin, Hank, and any of the other characters in Finding Dory will take a bit of a transformation.
• How to act: Dory is forgetful (duh), Marlin is paranoid, and Hank is basically a grouchy grandpa in septopus form.

Mickey and Gus From Love

• For Mickey: An oversized, unbuttoned checked shirt with a red bodysuit tucked into high-waisted jeans.
• For Gus: Thick-rimmed glasses, a band t-shirt, and a short-sleeved checked shirt with jeans.

Erin Gilbert From Ghostbusters

• What to wear: Match your Ghostbusters attire with a brown wig with a fringe.
• How to act: A little shy but definitely not afraid of ghosts.

Newt Scamander From Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

• What to wear: The magic here is in the accessories. To really get that Scamander vibe, you want a stunning blue trench coat, a cute bow tie, a wand, and an old-fashioned suitcase. Be sure to add coordinating fashion elements like that waistcoat, formal shoes, slacks, etc.
• How to act: You're a mysterious one, and you've definitely got a secret or two up your sleeve.

Eleven From Stranger Things

• What to wear: There are a few versions of Eleven you could be (Government Prisoner Elle, Hamburger-Eating Elle, etc.), but let's stick with the most recognisable. If you're not planning on shaving your head (pause and think about how much time it'll save you in the morning before deciding), get yourself some kind of flesh-coloured skull cap or a bad blonde wig. Then, find a high-necked baby-pink dress with a white collar, a blue jacket, striped knee socks, white Converse, and a chunky black watch. As a bonus, dribble some fake blood out of your nose and carry around an empty box of Eggo waffles.
• How to act: Since Eleven barely speaks throughout the series, you're off the hook for having to say anything out loud until 1 Nov. Practice staring intently and trying to move things with your brain (and be sure to let us know if you succeed).

Nancy From Stranger Things

• What to wear: If you don't have long brown hair, get yourself a long brown wig and pin it back on both sides of your head. Then, pair it with a cutesy striped jumper or button-down (buttoned all the way up, naturally), and a high-waisted skirt or jeans. If you go for a skirt, make sure you wear it with white tights and flats. Keep in mind Nancy's cool accessories, which include her homework, notebooks, and a bat.
• How to act: By the end of season one, Nancy proves herself to be not only book smart, but street smart as well. Be the girl with the plan on Oct. 31.

• What to wear: Along with your Ghostbusters outfit, you'll need a pair of yellow sunglasses and a blonde wig. Don't forget to tease the front of your hair.

• What to wear: For the outfit, you'll need a light-brown jumpsuit, black gloves, black boots, an orange book bag, and a matching belt. You can also embellish your getup with a Ghostbusters logo on your sleeve and two stripes across your chest. Personalise the look with a gold necklace that reads, "Patty."
• How to act: Hilarious. Bust out jokes any chance you can get.

Steve Harrington From Stranger Things

• What to wear: So you want to be the popular guy, huh? Tuck a striped, long-sleeved polo into some belted khakis and rock a pair of brown loafers [68]. Feel free to pop the collar.
• How to act: Charmingly cocky is Steve's MO, so don't be afraid to get your flirt on.

Arseface From Preacher

• What to wear: Wear a nice blue shirt and khaki trousers, but let's be real, the star of this costume is the arse on your face. Get creative at the craft store.
• How to act: You're a kind soul plagued with regret. You have a past that you're afraid to let people know about, so you go overboard trying to be helpful. You may or may not be living in hell.

The Waif From Game of Thrones

• What to wear: A short blonde wig and some variation of grey pieces of clothing layered over each other. Carry a long wooden staff or fake dagger around with you in case you come across anyone dressed as Arya.
• How to act: To quote Jean Ralphio [69], the Waif is the WORST. She's rude as hell and will betray you at any moment. For instance, if one of your friends asks you to get them a drink, do so, but before you to hand it over to them, chug the whole thing while looking them dead in the eye, and then shoot them your meanest smile. Also, only refer to your friends and family as "the girl" or "the boy." They'll really enjoy that, we promise.

Tommen and Margaery From Game of Thrones

• For Margaery: Wear a long dirty-blonde wig with your hair parted in the centre or done up beautifully. If you're going for Margaery's time as a prisoner of the High Sparrow, just wear a plain, loose-fitting tan sack dress. If you're going for OG Marg, put on a beautiful blue gown as elegant as your updo.
• For Tommen: See if you can find a robe or tunic in a gold/light-coloured brocade fabric. Don't forget to wear a short blonde wig, a golden crown, tall black boots, and a facial expression that suggests you hate your mother.

The Bennet Sisters From Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

• What to wear: If you combine a floor-length dress in neutral shades of white, brown, or green with a cardigan, a bonnet, and a fake machete, the result will be the ass-kicking Bennet sisters.
• How to act: Prim and proper, but ready to slice the head off a zombie at any moment.

• What to wear: You know the classic Wonder Woman look, but the modernised version is a bit darker. Get your hands on a shield, a lasso, and some arm cuffs. As for the armour, it's very reminiscent of a gladiator, so if you don't want to settle for any old premade costume, collect the pieces yourself.
• How to act: Like a total badass. This woman doesn't take sh*t from anyone.

Carol Aird and Therese Belivet From Carol

• For Carol: A curled blonde wig, a fur coat, a pink scarf to wrap around your head, and a tight, knee-length dress or skirt.
• For Therese: A brown, chin-length wig, a light-coloured shirt or sweater, and a checked skirt.

Wade and Vanessa From Deadpool

• For Vanessa: Either a short spiky brunette wig with streaks of colour, or a long curly brunette wig. Add a tiny and tight black miniskirt, skimpy tank top, and thigh-high stockings with black booties. If you get cold, throw on a red checked jacket.

• What to wear: Here's a great recycling option: whip out your Star Trek uniforms from Comic-Con, and just use them again this Halloween [72]. Don't forget to cast a Krall!
• How to act: Brave as hell, and really into space.

Tulip From Preacher

• What to wear: A black leather jacket over a cropped top or bra, jeans, and some cool sunglasses.
• How to act: You're a badass who doesn't take sh*t from anyone. Flex your Southern accent and flirt around.

Joyce From Stranger Things

• What to wear: Joyce has a more low-key '80s mom look than the rest of the parents on the show, so all you'll really need is a thin dark jacket, a striped shirt or chunky polo neck jumper and flared jeans with a shaggy brown bob hairstyle. If you really want to hammer home the fact you're dressing up as her, consider bringing a rubber axe or a piece of cardboard painted with the alphabet out with you. You could even go one step further and wrap part of your body in colourful Christmas lights.
• How to act: Tense. Very, very tense. To really nail your portrayal of Joyce, walk around whatever Halloween [73] party you're attending while yelling, "WILL!" and "Where's my boy?! Find my boy!" over and over again.

Batman From Batman v Superman

• What to wear: You can build your own Batman costume or buy a premade one and spruce it up. The most important components are a very long and dramatic cape and a badass bat helmet.
• How to act: Dark and mysterious. You're in charge, and you're the nightmare that lurks in the shadows. Just creep around people like a crazy person all night and you'll be good.

Ravenna, the Huntsman, Sara, and Queen Freya From The Huntsman: Winter's War

• What to wear: Do you have a tall, blonde, ridiculously ripped male friend? Is he into hand-to-hand combat and does he own a few leather waistcoats? Then he might make the perfect Huntsman to your Sara, Queen Freya, and Ravenna.
• How to act: Pick a side, because this group isn't exactly on the greatest terms.

Cyborg From Batman v Superman

• What to wear: Much like the other members of the Justice League, you have to get that armour together. Since Cyborg is a bit more robotic, the more mechanical you are, the better. And if you can find a way to get that glowing eye, more power to you.
• How to act: Like a member of the team who's ready to kick ass, take names, and have a good time doing it.

Sandy and Danny From Grease

• For Sandy: A curly blonde wig, tight black jeans, disco pants, or leggings, an off-the-shoulder black top, and red heels. Add red lipstick and hoop earrings to really nail it.
• For Danny: Hair quiffed up to the extreme, a tight black t-shirt, and tight black jeans.

Lyanna Mormont From Game of Thrones

• What to wear: A black polo neck under a fluffy black fur and black leather gloves. Part your hair in the middle and pull it halfway back.
• How to act: Don't say a lot, but when you do, speak with authority and finality. Hold your hand up to silence the prattle of others.

The Lady Mutants From X-Men: Apocalypse

• What to wear: Mystique, Storm, Jean Grey, and Psylocke costumes are the perfect way to be strong, empowered mutants on Halloween [74] (psychic powers not included, sadly). Make sure your hair matches theirs (i.e., respectively slicked back and bright red, a white mohawk, long and red, and brown with purple streaks).
• How to act: Each character has a unique personality, so you have some homework to do.

Donatello, Raphael, Leonardo, and Michelangelo From Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

• What to wear: Take a page out of Rihanna's book [75] and strap a fake shell to your back to be the best group of crime-fighting reptiles NYC has ever seen.
• How to act: Joke around constantly, and get incredibly excited at the scent of pizza.

Rick Flag From Suicide Squad

• What to wear: A military uniform with fingerless black gloves and facial hair.
• How to act: You're just a regular guy that got mixed up with the wrong crowd.

Scully and Mulder From X-Files

• For Scully: A chin-length red wig, a black blazer, a black pencil skirt, heels, and a white button-down shirt. Add an FBI badge to make sure everyone knows who you are.
• For Mulder: A black suit and a brown wig. Carry around a badge with his character's name, or a poster that says "I Want to Believe."

Deadshot From Suicide Squad

• What to wear: Deadshot is basically DC Comics's version of Deadpool. Aside from your shooting gear, you'll need a red Under Armour shirt, black trousers, and matching boots. You should also consider getting a bald cap.
• How to act: You're one sharp shooter with a strong hatred for anything Batman-related.

El Diablo From Suicide Squad

• What to wear: A white vest, black jeans, and tons of fake tattoos, specifically one that resembles a skeleton on your face.
• How to act: Like a quiet man with a fiery spirit.

• How to act: Um, like you just woke up from being dead for a few days. You know, excited, but also kind of disillusioned by the nothingness? Like that.

• What to wear: A perfectly fitting futuristic black suit with gloves and a wide belt. A red wig.
• How to act: Scowly and concerned; you're part of the dark side, after all.

Conner 4 Real From Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

• What to wear: A green letterman jacket, a bow tie, and cool jeans. Rock a pair of dark, serious shades and grab a microphone.
• How to act: Whip out your dance moves and your best verses — this is your time to shine.

Kevin From Ghostbusters

• What to wear: A short-sleeved shirt, khaki trousers, a navy waistcoat, a maroon tie, and glasses without lenses.
• How to act: Like an airhead. Rub your eyes through your glasses occasionally.

Ramsay Bolton From Game of Thrones

• What to wear: Black trousers, black leather gloves, a black jacket, and a long cape with fur at the collar. Wear a brown wig, and to add a special touch, carry around a few dog stuffed animals or a shield with the Bolton sigil [76] on it.
• How to act: We take back what we said about the Waif — Ramsay is actually the worst. He's more annoying and despicable than Joffrey, so amp up those tendencies, and remember to fawn over any dog you pass on the street.

Kylo Ren From Star Wars: The Force Awakens

• What to wear: Black leather trousers under a long, hooded black robe. Cover your face in a black mask, but when you pull it off, shake out your glorious hair.
• How to act: Like you're being pulled by two different sides constantly. Also, kind of a pouty brat.

Lemonade's "Hold Up" Beyoncé

• What to wear: A ruffled yellow dress and a black bra. Crimp your hair and, of course, grab a baseball bat (with "Hot Sauce" written on it).
• How to act: Get that bat and go to town. Except maybe don't actually smash up a bunch of cars, OK?

Deadpool

• What to wear: A dark-red and black suit with weapons attached to your whole body.
• How to act: Keep the dirty jokes coming. It's really a great excuse to let the expletives fly.

Captain Phasma From Star Wars: The Force Awakens

• What to wear: Just pull your old Darth Vader costume out and spray-paint it silver.
• How to act: You're a woman of few words. Point your gun and get things done.

Rick and Co. From The Walking Dead

• What to wear: If you're interested in channelling your inner zombie-killer, The Walking Dead costumes [77] are relatively easy to execute. Rick, Michonne, Glenn, and the rest of the crew basically rock normal clothes that are just covered in various patches of blood and guts. If you go as Negan, though, you've got to wear a black leather jacket and carry around a bat.
• How to act: A varying mix of terrified, ballsy, or verging on insane.

Melisandre (Old Edition) From Game of Thrones

• What to wear: Well, there's not much to this costume, so that's a plus. The true, old version of Melisandre is butt naked, so get yourself a body suit that matches your skin tone and a stringy white wig. If you can use makeup to draw on a few wrinkles, you'll nail it.
• How to act: Exhausted and over life in general. Refuse all offerings of food, and avoid mirrors.

The White Queen, the Mad Hatter, and Alice From Alice Through the Looking Glass

• What to wear: Rock the White Queen's all-white ensemble (white wig and dress, silver crown and jewellery), the Mad Hatter's orange-and-pink-themed outfit, or Alice's latest look (blonde wig and a silk shirt or dress under a button-up waistcoat). Feel free to go old-school blue-dress-white-apron-Alice if you prefer!
• How to act: The White Queen is calm, cool, and collected, while Alice is more impulsive and outspoken. The Mad Hatter is . . . mad.

"Formation" Video Beyoncé

• What to wear: A truly huge black hat that covers your eyes, tons of silver necklaces and bracelets, and a tight black dress.
• How to act: There are not a lot of acceptable situations in which to use the double bird, so take advantage of it.

The Mountain (Zombie Edition) From Game of Thrones

• What to wear: Unless the person reading this is Shaq, we're going to go ahead and assume you're not nine feet tall, so don't worry about your size. This costume is a little tough, though, considering the undead Gregor Clegane rocks a full suit of golden armour. You can always wear a gold long-sleeved shirt and trousers, and then just buy a helmet if you want to keep things simple. Just make sure you make any visible skin look like the grey, rotting flesh of a corpse.
• How to act: Totally silent and totally terrifying.

Four and Tris From Allegiant

• For Tris: A short blonde bob parted down the middle, with black skinny jeans, a black vest top, and some temporary bird tattoos [78]. Get some lace-up black boots and a military jacket in grey camo print if possible.
• For Four: A pair of black jeans, and a grey or black t-shirt and boots. Feel free to add Four's tattoos [79], or a swipe of blood on the side of your face (he gets in a few scrapes, OK?).

Katana From Suicide Squad

• What to wear: Aside from your sword, you should don black leggings, a white tank top, a black leather jacket, and black combat boots. You will also need a white mask and a red sash to tie around your waist and shoulders.
• How to act: Incredibly stealthy with a hint of badass. Have a conversation with your sword every once in a while.

Finn From Star Wars: The Force Awakens

• What to wear: A black shirt and a beat-up brown leather jacket. Wield a lightsaber.
• How to act: Amiable and confident, but maybe a little overconfident.

• What to wear: Honestly, you could just cut holes in the side of a large potato sack for your arms and you'd have something akin to the High Sparrow's raggedy dress. If you don't have a potato sack lying around (understandable), just throw on your baggiest, drabbest light-coloured clothes and get yourself a white wig. Go barefoot if possible, and carry a book around with the Faith of the Seven's seven-pointed star carved into it (or better yet, ask your friend to wear a black robe and paint the symbol on their forehead and follow you around all night).
• How to act: Cocky and self-assured.

The Dude Mutants (Dudants?) From X-Men: Apocalypse

• What to wear: Can you imagine how cool a Quicksilver costume would be (for instance: gelling your silver hair back to make it look like you're running at top speed)? Whether you dress up as him, Cyclops (red sunglasses), Nightcrawler (blue face paint), or Angel (silver wings), you know your outfit is going to be a winner.
• How to act: Quicksilver is a joker, and Cyclops is a cocky, well-meaning jerk. Nightcrawler is timid and sweet, while Angel is a mean-spirited villain in over his head.

Dolores From Westworld

• What to wear: A long-sleeved blue Western-style dress with a full skirt (a petticoat would help). Belt it with a brown leather belt and pull your hair up halfway.
• How to act: Tough and suspicious. Perhaps a little prone to violence.

• What to wear: If you love Euphoria [82] as much as we do, being Jules for Halloween [83] is at the top of your list. While you could opt for one of her pastel-coloured babydoll tops with a pleated skirt and platforms sneakers, you could also try something a little more dangerous by dressing up as what she wore to the Halloween party. Her angel costume consisted of a long white dress, pronounced wings, and runny makeup.

Molly and Amy From Booksmart

• What to wear for Molly: Pack on the plaid! A green plaid blazer with a bright yellow turtleneck will make you feel like nothing less than a smarty pants.
• What to wear for Amy: Remember when patches were cool? Well, they still are. Add patches to your favourite jean jacket, throw on a t-shirt, and give your outfit the finishing touch with a bandana. Done, done, and done.
