A Right Royal Knees Up: How the Queen Celebrated Her 90th Birthday
Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 90th birthday on April 21, and the great British public turned out in droves to celebrate. The Queen and Prince Philip greeted the crowds in Windsor on Thursday morning, before The Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussein presented her majesty with a regal purple and gold birthday cake. There were also ceremonial gun salutes in London's Hyde Park and in the shadow of Tower Bridge.
Queen Elizabeth recently became the longest-reigning British monarch in history, making this landmark birthday even more special. The momentous occasion was marked with newly released photographs showing the Queen with her grandchildren, her Corgis, and her daughter, Princess Anne, plus those amazing new stamps where the Queen poses alongside her direct heirs. The celebrations will continue into the evening, when there will be beacon lightings across the country, with a special lighting in Windsor attended by members of the royal family.
