All the Times Kids Stole the Show and Made a British Royal Wedding Even Better

11/06/2018 - 12:09 PM

We love the pomp, pageantry, and downright magic of royal weddings [1], and they can often be made even better when there are adorable kids involved. Most recently, we saw Prince George and Princess Charlotte steal the spotlight at their Uncle Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle [2], and they'll likely reprise their roles as pageboy and flower girl [3] when cousin Eugenie ties the knot later this year! From Harry and William as fidgety pageboys to the famously grumpy Grace Van Cutsem covering her ears on the Buckingham Palace balcony, keep reading to see all the times kids were front and centre for royal weddings!

Princess Diana and Prince Charles, 1981

The kids at Charles and Diana's wedding looked less than enthused while on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Zara Legge Bourke and Captain Richard Grosvenor Plunkett-Ernle-Erle-Drax, 1985

A young Zara Tindall [5] acted as bridesmaid for family friends.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, 1986

Prince William, then 4 years old, was a pageboy at his Uncle Andrew's wedding. He had a hard time staying awake during the event, sitting next to his 6-year-old cousin Laura Fellowes, who had her finger in her nose.

Like most toddlers, William hard a hard time focusing.

Camilla Dunne and the Honourable Rupert Soames, 1988

For the wedding of Princess Diana's close friends Rupert Soames and Camilla Dunne, William was dressed from head to toe in cream and white with bright pink suspenders.

William showed off his sweet outfit while posing with the rest of pink-clad wedding party.

Charles Spencer and Catherine Victoria Lockwood, 1989

An adorable Prince Harry stood beside his cousin Eleanor Fellowes as he served as a pageboy for the wedding of Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer. Check out that sash!

Alison Wardley and Ben Dady, 1993

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie looked like two little clouds at the wedding of former royal nanny Alison Wardley.

Prince William and Kate Middleton, 2011

Kate's sister Pippa Middleton was in charge [6] of wrangling the young wedding party members.

Bridesmaid Margarita Armstrong-Jones, pageboy Tom Pettifer, and bridesmaid Lady Louise Windsor waved as they arrived at Westminster Abbey.

Bridemaid Grace van Cutsem was in good spirits as she arrived to Kate and Will's wedding . . .

. . . but the 3-year-old was in a grumpier mood [7] as the newlyweds had their first kiss on the balcony at Buckingham Palace.

Pippa Middleton and James Matthews, 2017

Prince George and Princess Charlotte were part of their Aunt Pippa's wedding in England.

Kate returned the favour for her younger sister by keeping the pageboys and flower girls in line [8].

One young member of the wedding party had some fun with the cameras [9] outside the church.

Kate made sure to give Charlotte a little flower girl pep talk [10] before she headed inside.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Wedding, 2018

Prince George wore trousers in public [11] for the first time!

Princess Charlotte did a few yoga stretches in front of St. George's Chapel.

The pageboys and bridesmaids waved from their car.

Pageboy Jasper Dyer waved to waiting onlookers.

Pageboys Brian and John Mulroney couldn't contain their excitement.

The 7-year-old twins, who are the sons of Meghan's BFF Jessica Mulroney, did a great job of holding her train as she entered the church.

The kids made their way up the steps and into the chapel.

Charlotte waved to Harry and Meghan as they took off on their carriage procession.

Charlotte gave Harry a taste of his own medicine [12] as she stuck her tongue out from the car window.

Meghan's goddaughter Remi Litt [13] smiled for the waiting cameras.

Meghan's goddaughter Rylan Litt was also one of her bridesmaids.

The kids were front and centre in Meghan and Harry's official wedding portraits [14].
