No Surprise — Lupita Nyong'o Has Some Great Advice For Young Women
Lupita Nyong'o was the guest of honor at LoveGold's exclusive party at Chateau Marmont's Selma House in LA last night. The actress, who is widely considered the frontrunner for best supporting actress at the Oscars this Sunday, brought her own special guest to the event: her mother, Dorothy Nyong'o.
We had a chance to catch up with the 30-year-old 12 Years a Slave actress inside the soiree to ask her what advice she'd share with other young women pursuing sometimes impossible-seeming goals. She told us, "Dreaming is free. And it's fun. So do it!" Lupita also reflected on being cast as Patsey in 12 Years, telling us she thinks the role came along at the right time at her life. "It was like a dream come true to have the opportunity to play such a powerful woman," she said. "I was humbled by it, I was challenged by it, but I was ultimately prepared for it, more than I knew at the time." Lupita told us she's keeping the details of her Oscars dress close to the vest until the big day but assured us it will be much different and require "much more fuss" than what she wore to watch the Academy Awards on TV last year: her pajamas.
Last night's bash capped off what was surely a memorable day for Lupita. Earlier, she had the honor of meeting the Dalai Lama at a leadership conference and posed for pictures with His Holiness and some of the other celebrities in attendance, including Naomi Watts and Jeremy Renner.
