Millie Bobby Brown accepted the award for best performance in a show at the MTV Movie & TV Awards [1] for her role as Eleven in Stranger Things [2]. The teenage star couldn't attend Saturday night's show in NYC due to a minor knee injury, but she delivered her acceptance speech in a video from her home in Atlanta. Millie took the opportunity not only to thank her fans for their votes but also to publicly address bullying. "Since I know there are many young people watching this, and even some adults, too, they could probably use the reminder that I was taught — if you don't have anything nice to say, just don't say it," she said.
The statement comes days after Millie deleted her Twitter account [3] following the rise of the hateful #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown memes [4], which people created using photos of the actress alongside extremely homophobic and bigoted quotes (all of which were made up). Since becoming the target of such horrible bullying at a young age, she clearly has learned how to deal with it in a mature way. "I'm not going to tolerate it, and neither should any of you," she said, encourageing anyone who needs help to message her on Instagram.
