Oprah Winfrey Quotes on Running For President January 2018

Oprah Winfrey Said She Doesn't "Have the DNA" to Run For President, but We Aren't Convinced

Oprah blew everyone away when she gave a profound speech at the 2018 Golden Globes, and almost immediately, #Oprah2020 started circulating on Twitter with tweets for the 63-year-old to run for president. Just three weeks before that epic moment though, she was telling InStyle's editor-in-chief Laura Brown, for their March issue, that she had no desire to be the United States's future commander in chief.

"I actually saw a mug the other day . . . I thought it was a cute mug," she said. "All you need is a mug and some campaign literature and a T-shirt. I've always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not. And so it's not something that interests me. I don't have the DNA for it." Even though she says she doesn't want to be president, there are people out there that think she can do it. "I met with someone the other day who said they would help me with a campaign," she continued. "That's not for me."

Who knows if she's changed her mind after seeing the outcry for her to become Madame President. What we do know is that Oprah's longtime partner Stedman Graham totally supports the idea. "It's up to the people," he told the Los Angeles Times right after her speech. "She would absolutely do it." Only time will tell if Oprah Winfrey will throw her hat in the ring.
