Fast and Furious star Paul Walker died this afternoon in a car accident in Santa Clarita, CA. He was 40 years old.
A message posted to the actor's official Facebook page confirmed the sad news this evening. The statement, signed by #TeamPW, began: "It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives." Reports on the ownership of the vehicle have varied: TMZ earlier reported that the Porsche involved in today's accident belonged to Paul. In their Facebook message, Paul's team also thanked fans for keeping the actor's friends and family members in their thoughts, and wrote they were equally "stunned and saddened" by news of the accident.
Following the confirmation of Paul's death, Universal Pictures also released a statement, stating, "All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the Fast and Furious films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul's family."
