Pete Davidson on Kanye West's Saturday Night Live Rant Video

Pete Davidson Calls Out Kanye West For His Cringeworthy SNL Rant: "Make Kanye 2006 Again"

Pete Davidson would like to set the record straight about Kanye West's Saturday Night Live appearance on Sept. 30 thankyouverymuch. At the end of last week's show, in which Kanye appeared as a musical guest, the 41-year-old rapper kept the audience in their seats and the cast onstage as he delivered an uncomfortable pro-Trump political rant while wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat.

The following Saturday, Pete visited the Weekend Update desk to discuss what he called, "one of the worst, one of the most awkward, things I've ever seen while working here." Pete talked with Colin Jost about Kanye's tirade, disputing the rapper's claims that he was bullied into removing his hat. He also encouraged Kanye to go back on medication, as Kanye recently revealed to TMZ that he'd stopped taking his prescription for his bipolar disorder.

"There's no shame in the medicine game," said Pete, who has been vocal about his own struggles with mental illness. "I'm on 'em. It's great." He also explained that "being mentally ill is not an excuse to act like a jackass." Watch the video above to get Pete's full account of what happened, and why it led him to demand we "Make Kanye 2006 Again."
