For 22 years, it seemed as though Colin Firth and his film producer wife, Livia, were one of those rare famous couples whose love story stood the test of time. The couple married in 1997, and went onto have two sons together: Matteo, in 2001, and Luca in 2003 (Colin also has an older son who he shares with American-Canadian actress Meg Tilly). While splitting their time between London and Livia's home nation of Italy, the couple attended many red caroet events together over the years. However, in 2019, the couple split.
A statement was released to The Times in 2018 detailing Livia's affar with journalist, Marco Brancaccia. "A few years ago Colin and Livia privately made the decision to separate. During that time Livia briefly became involved with former friend Mr. Brancaccia. The Firths have since reunited," a rep for the couple told the newspaper. "Subsequently, Mr. Brancaccia carried out a frightening campaign of harassment over several months, much of which is documented."
However, their reconciliation did not last long and the couple formally announced their split in Dec. 2019 via a statement reading: "Colin and Livia Firth have separated. They maintain a close friendship and remain united in their love for their children. They kindly ask for privacy. There will be no further comment."
