Ben Affleck traded his seat in the director's chair for one in Congress yesterday as he testified at a House Foreign Affairs committee hearing. The actor spent International Women's Day bringing attention to the plight of females and children in the Congo. More than 3 million people have died there in the past 15 years alone, and Ben founded the Eastern Congo Initiative in the hopes of bringing more aid and attention to the war-torn country. He joined forces with Cindy McCain for the cause, and the pair made an appearance on Good Morning America before heading to Capitol Hill. Ben is using some free time following a busy award season with wife Jennifer Garner to focus on giving back. Jen didn't join him today, but she's no stranger to the political process. She's made her own appearances in front of legislators to champion her favourite philanthropy, Save the Children.
